Thanksgiving is a time of peace, love, joy, and most of all, thanks. People gather with their loved ones to share what they are thankful for most in life and then eat until they can't eat anymore. This Thanksgiving, I am not really focused on what all I am thankful for, but I am actually pretty curious about what other people are thankful for. Not just the generic stuff either. Something that they are really truly thankful for. So, I asked 25 people ages 5-58 years old what they are most thankful for this Thanksgiving. To be honest, I was pleasantly surprised with most of the responses.

*Gender and age were used instead of names

1. "That we have water, sun, and rain to allow us to grow pretty flowers. And that I learn instruments at school." (Female, 9)

2. "To have a family and great friends to come back to over break." (Female, 20)

3. "For the new creation God has blessed us with and being back home, to shared this moment with the people we love." (Female, 29)

4. "Jesus." (Female, 5)

5. "Positive people in life that encourage me to be great." (Female, 19)

6. "Mario, Chex Mix, 1-2-3- STATUE." (Male, 5)

7. "A happy, healthy family." (Female, 51)

8. "Our service people and their families that sacrifice themselves for our freedom." (Female, 27)

9. "All my friends that have been super helpful to and supportive of me the past couple months when my family hasn't." (Male, 19)

10. "My best friend." (Male, 19)

11. "Thankful for my family." (Female, 28)

12. "I'm thankful for my amazing wife." (Male, 32)

13. "My career and the opportunity to make something out of myself as well as be able to provide to people that may need it." (Male, 18)

14. "My family and friends." (Male, 19)

15. "Jesus, family, the healing of my eyesight." (Female, 58)

16. "Barrack Obama." (Female, 14)

17. "Family and friends that feel like family." (Female, 19)

18. "My family, my wife, my kids, strength, life." (Male, 48)

19. "That I get to see all my friends on a cruise and also what God and Jesus did for me." (Male, 11)

20. "Thankful to be alive, for a beautiful wife, and my children." (Male, 39)

21. "Thankful to know God and for my family." (Female, 42)

22. "For my family and mommy and daddy." (Female, 7)

23. "For my family and for my faith." (Female, 49)

24. "Thankful for my family and the ability to have deep and meaningful conversations with each other." (Male, 20)

25. "You" (Female, 19)

I guess I'll throw what I'm thankful for at the end here. I am beyond grateful for my family who I love beyond measure. For my friends, most of which have been with me since elementary school. My boyfriend, who I come to love more and more each day, and last, but not least, the life that I've been given and the ability to live it any way I can. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
