9 Signs You Grew Up In An Asian Household

There are just some experiences and customs that only Asian families have. I grew up with two Asian immigrant parents, and I wouldn't want it any other way!

My life has been shaped by this experience, and I'm sure my fellow Asian friends can relate to this, too.

From the smell of fish oil and sesame oil wafting in the kitchen to taking your shoes off before you enter the house, these specific customs are truly apparent in the Asian household.

1. You wouldn't go a day without seeing the rice cooker on in the kitchen

You had rice with every meal — breakfast, lunch and dinner. Growing up, there was nothing worse than when dinner was ready, but the rice wasn't.

And let me guess, there's a FAT bag of uncooked jasmine rice sitting in the corner of your kitchen.

2. The first thing your mom bought you when you moved to college was a mini rice cooker

She didn't even ask if you needed school supplies, but she made sure you had your own personal rice cooker to bring with you to college. Thanks, mom!

3. You have those weird portraits with your siblings hanging all over your house

Okay, but they're kind of cute, right?

4. You remember the dreaded ear pick

When your mom brought out the ear pick, you knew she was about to pick the shit out of your ears for what seemed like hours.

5. You weren't sure if your parents were talking shit about you over the phone

You remember all those times when your parents would be speaking to someone over the phone in a different language, but the only word you could understand was your own name.

Uh, are they talking shit about me?

6. Your silverware drawer is stacked with those Chinese spoons

Alright, but I wish I had some of these in my apartment right now. They're perfect for sippin' on soups!

7. Your parents would schedule weekend trips to Super H Mart

This place is absolute Asian heaven though. Pocky, White Rabbit candy and mochi ice cream galore!

8. You or your siblings had a bowl cut at one point

When did my parents decide this was a good idea?

9. You've heard your parents' "journey to America" story thousands of times

But, those never get old. And you're reminded constantly that your parents are the most badass ones out there.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
