Artists: We Are More Than Just Sexy!
Kelcey Carbery

Dear people,

Artists and creators have always been considered to be sexy and attractive. I mean, obviously. We can sit back and imagine the steamy photographer that simply oozes charisma, tenacity, and the ability to make you feel special. But are all artists/creators sexy?

Well, first off, we think a lot and problem solve. When trying to figure out the best way to solve something artistically or under a creative lens, we stare into the distance. We sketch. We bite our lips and play with our hair. We talk about our ideas passionately. We mindlessly walk about the room, aimlessly, bumping into things and pretending that we intended to do so. We may become incredibly engrossed in our ideas to the point where we may even get irritated or angry with our lack of progress in achieving them. We may even be seen facing a corner, seething, so completely done with ourselves that we've given up on our ideas.

But fear not. We, the artists/creators, do know how to overcome this wall we create within ourselves to appear sexy to the outside world. That all art is sexy, that the making of art is sexy. And sometimes, hey- it is. For the sake of non-artists looking outside in on the artist/creator world, we will tell you it's sexy. We won't tell you the amount of hours we put in slaving over our artworks. We won't tell you that this artwork is typically made around messy studios, rooms, Ramen soups, and five cups of coffee- and that one might be accidentally used for paint. And yes, we may sometimes drink out of that cup. But isn't that so sexy? We are so busy and engrossed with our artwork that we don't even know how sexy we are being.

No, the blank stare I'm giving you doesn't mean I'm looking at you or trying to flirt. It means that I haven't slept due to the artwork I worked on till four in the morning. I'm not even awake. Hell, I'm not even looking at you. I'm processing how to function after staying up so late, working on homework. I'm not giving you "the eyes." I'm giving you the eyes of an extremely tired person who loves what they do so much that they sacrifice their sleep over it, thanks.

So, yeah, artists are sexy. You know what else we are? Hard workers. The thrill of being an artists is sexy, yes, but we wouldn't be so clearly sexy without hours of dedication and hard work. So before you call an artist out for being unbelievably sexy, call them out for being a hard worker. A sexy hard worker.

Sincerely,

An artist whom is very tired and also very sexy for being so dedicated.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
