After releasing the single, "Dangerous Woman," we got a sneak peek of Grande’s dangerous side. But after dropping this new album Friday, there is no reason not to believe this woman is dangerous (dangerous on the charts, that is).
Other artists need to be careful because Grande is taking over. She reached the number one spot on the iTunes charts just hours after being released.
"Dangerous Woman" is a 15-track album that incorporates many different genres from retro pop, to rap, to reggae. Some may say she hasn’t found her sound, but I say find you a woman who can do it all. Rolling Stone described Grande as a “rock-friendly voice that could be critically adored like Adele or Amy Winehouse.”
The album features rappers Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Future, and even includes a soulful, bluesy track with Macy Gray.
Grande’s first album, "Yours Truly" had a retro 1950’s feel, while her second album, "My Everything," was more ‘90’s R&B. "Dangerous Woman" has it all.
Of course, it has the popular pop singles, but what people don’t hear on the radio is surprising.
“Greedy” has harmonies that will remind you of a Broadway musical. Several songs will make you want to dance like you’re an 80’s pop star. They may be compared to songs by pop artists like Madonna, Janet Jackson and Paula Abdul. Side to Side has a reggae sound that will give you island vibes to get you ready for summer.
Aside from her new album, Grande has been in the headlines for her rants on feminism. After Selena Gomez was referred to as “Justin Bieber’s ex” in a recent headline, Grande had to take a stand.
Grande told Billboard Magazine,
“I'll never be able to swallow the fact that people feel the need to attach a successful woman to a man when they say her name.”
She also made a statement about female superstars not being able to show pride in their bodies like their male counterparts. She showed Billboard Magazine screenshots of tweets praising Justin Bieber and Zayn Malik, but shaming Miley Cyrus and Kim Kardashian for showing skin.
“If you’re going to rave about how sexy a male artist looks with his shirt off, and a woman decides to get in her panties or show her boobies for a photo shoot, she needs to be treated with the same awe and admiration. I will say it until I’m an old-ass lady with my tits out at Whole Foods. I’ll be in the produce aisle, naked at 95, with a sensible ponytail, one strand of hair left on my head and a Chanel bow. Mark my words. See you there with my 95 dogs.”
Ariana Grande is on a roll in more ways than one. Watch out internet haters, we have a dangerous woman on our hands.
