Recently, I was sitting in my psychology class and we had been talking about sensation and perception and how all of our senses work. I was just in complete awe of how we look at something and it goes through a whole entire process so that we can make sense of what the object or scene is. It made me just really think about all of God’s creations in such a different light. As I was growing up, I heard the creation story from Genesis many times. The beginning of that passage from the Bible goes like this…
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day” (Genesis 1:1-5)… and it goes on for five more days before God rested on the seventh day.
The Bible describes how God made light, the sky, separated water from land, the sun, moon and stars, birds, livestock, man and woman, and plants. He made all of these things and so much more. He created the tiny ants, as well as beautiful and unique butterflies. Our amazing God has made sunrises and sunsets (each one unique) since the beginning of time. He made you and I and all of the other people of the world that have come and gone. He made each and every one of us in His image, but no one is exactly the same. He made it so that we can breathe on our own, walk, communicate with each other, see all of the different colors the world has to offer. He made all of the systems in our bodies and made sure that they could work together and understand different signals. He made it so that women can bear children and so that all of us could sweat and use the bathroom to release all of the toxins in our bodies.
God made us so that we can smell different smells and taste different tastes and hear different sounds. He made the lemons sour and the strawberries sweet and all the things in between. He gave us the ability to feel different emotions and think the thoughts that we have. He designed each part of us with so much thought and passion. He counted each hair on our heads and he knows each and everyone of us even better than we know ourselves.
I know that some of you may have thought about these things before. But I am asking you to really dig deep into the fact that our Heavenly Father is an Almighty God. He is all powerful and all knowing. He created each and every one of us. I am just so utterly amazed at the masterpieces he has created. I want our goal as a society to not just work on loving God more and being thankful for his creativity, but I also want us to see the little things in life and appreciate them. I want to be walking across campus and take notice to that flower that is blooming and think of how amazing it is for plants to work the way that they do. I want to look at the sky and remember that the different parts of my brain are automatically recognizing the color and processing it through my brain to ultimately see it as blue. I want to hold the hand of another person and notice how their fingers are different from mine and how unique the lines on their hands are. I want us to notice these things that seem so small and realize how huge they really are because God made each and everything unique and not at all the same as something else. Be utterly amazed at life and what these small things have to offer us, because we have a truly amazing God.
