About a week ago, I'm walking home with a brand new computer in my hands because mine decided to crash out and blackout right when finals were starting. So, walking home frustrated but super excited about my brand new, "fully updated", a piece of new and fine technology, I open it to the first notification being: your MacBook needs updating. (???).
Maybe about two weeks ago when I had the 2016 version MacBook, I would let it go and just continue to press the "remind me tomorrow" button, so I can ignore it because surely, a new update for just a year old computer isn't necessary. But, receiving this notification for a brand new MacBook which I literally just opened that day is honestly just a secondary, unnecessary and an unnoticeable characteristic of any apple product. That is basically me saying it's extra.
Aside from the obsessive-compulsive notifications I see constantly pop up on my screen disturbing one of my Netflix sessions, these obnoxious upgrades also apply to iPhones but in a 10x more disturbing manner. Every time I've updated my phone it's completely slowed down every aspect of my phone. Literally everything. Snapchat, camera, apps, wifi, and messages. I'm constantly struggling to get the luxurious treatment of an iPhone unless I have the brand new model of the phone. In this day and age, with the rates of the constant "optional" Apple upgrades, if you don't have the iPhone X, do you even have an iPhone?
Apple feels the need to always make a statement when it comes to their technology, which is thoroughly recognized because we all see it, and experience it. Although I can't get myself to hate on their bold statements and their idea of making their technology upgradable 24/7, I am ultimately just saying most of their upgrades for their many gadgets are more obnoxious and tedious than necessary.
Everyone creates a relationship with their phone or computer.
They trust it with their information, they rely on it, and most people tend to develop a preference for things merely because they are familiar with it. It is distasteful to have no choice but to constantly be dealing with updates that might put you in an unfamiliar position.
Don't get me wrong though. I totally love Apple. Seriously, is it a sad statement if I were to say where would our world be without it? God bless Apple and the creation of all portrait mode cameras in a phone and the fact that Snapchat can be one of my best hobbies. But, a message to Apple: don't take advantage of our dedication towards your many utilities we love so much, please chill on the updates.
