Another day in 2016 and the world has been blessed with some more great music. On September 2, two artists released some of the most important work of their young careers as rappers.
Travis Scott, a Houston rapper who is most known for his 2015 release, "Rodeo," surprised the world with the release of his sophomore album, "Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight." The artist has been dropping hints of this release for awhile now. He had even gone as far to say certain dates that the project was supposed to be released, but when the time came, it was nowhere to be found. But, here it is, and was it worth the wait? Some would say yes, other will say no. Travis gained so much attention with the success of "Rodeo" that some people wondered if he could ever top it. "Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight" feels more like a mixtape rather than a full-length LP. There was no real concept for this album. It seemed like a bunch of tracks that were just thrown together to make an album. What really helped this album was the features, It is no secret that Travis Scott is a huge Kid Cudi fan and he has made that well known since the beginning of his career. A few years later, he finally got a feature from Cudi. and this is just one of the many standout features on this album. He got legendary Andre 3000 from the group OutKast on the opening track and even got Kendrick Lamar on one of the tracks.
All in all, this project is good. Is it his best? Probably not. "Rodeo" and his second mixtape, "Days Before Rodeo" both have this one beat.
Another Artist who released an album was TDE's own, Isaiah Rashad. He went on to release his second studio album, "The Suns Tirade." This album was just what everyone expected it would be. Smooth instrumentals with great lyrics to top it off. This album is not meant for everyone, if you are only a fan of loud party music, then do not give this a listen. The way Rashad has molded himself into a great artist is incredible. The labels owner, Top Dawg, made sure that he cut his old habits such as drinking and doing drugs before he was able to release any new music. Thank God he did or the world would not have gotten this great project. With features from Kendrick Lamar and Jay Rock, this album is one of the best of the year.
With 2015 being such a great year for music, some people were unsure that 2016 would be able to live up to it. But so far, it has and we still have some time left. Some more big names are still set to drop an album in 2016. If the year ends strong, it could compete with 2015 because the first part of 2016 was actually a lot better than expected.
