As women, we generally encounter the same annoying questions day after day. Not even in the shady, pick-up line 'Is this sexual harassment, or not?' way, but in the 'Making normal conversation with someone you haven't seen in years or just met for the first time' way.
Questions that are asked by both men and other women. They get extremely tiring after being asked twice. Here are a few.
1. "Do you have a boyfriend?"
Whether the answer is yes or no, it's really no one's business. Unless the knowledge of our romantic lives is the key to world peace.
2. "Why don't you have a boyfriend?"
Breaking News: Not every woman's ultimate goal is to be in a relationship, or married! As Amy Poehler said, "Good for her! Not for me." Some of us may believe that having wonderful, reliable friends around us, or a great job, is more fulfilling than anything romantic. Or we believe that there are more important things in life. Also, not all women are interested in men.
3. "Have you lost weight?"
Nice to see you, too! I've been well, etc. One would think that what we have done with our lives in the intervening years is more important than what we have done to our waistlines. I guess not.
4. "Do you have kids?"
Just like with marriage, not every woman wants children. Or, if they do, maybe they're not ready yet. Maybe they still feel like they have their whole life ahead of them. We shouldn't assume that every woman is a mother, or wants to be one.5. "May I have your number?"
No. When we say we don't want to give you our number, we mean it. We shouldn't have to give out fake phone numbers.6. "Why are you wearing that?"
Because we like the outfit, or because we're comfortable in it. Or because we think we look good in it and it gives us confidence in ourselves. That's it.
7. "How do you get/expect to get a man's attention?"
Personally, I have never thought about how to get a man's attention. Why would I want that? When has a woman ever benefitted from it? Ladies, you're amazing even without male validation.
8. "Are you tired/sick?"
This is usually asked by men and it's always asked when we are not wearing makeup. Maybe we just don't feel like putting any on in the morning, or we prefer the way we look without it. It's not like we exist only to give you something pretty to gaze at every day. We don't all have naturally smoky eyes, long eyelashes or full, red lips. But if you do, ladies, more power to you and please tell me your secret.
