An Open Poem To My High School Teachers

"To the world you may just be a teacher, but to your students you are a hero."

An Open Poem To My High School Teachers

You are one of a kind,

but no one seems to appreciate you.

All the work you put in,

all the stress you endure,

just to make our futures promising.

You make a difference

and never get a thank you.

But somehow,

you never give up.

Even when we do not listen,

even when we are talking,

even when we are daydreaming,

and even when we are texting

you still care about us.

You put your life on hold,

just to help create a better one for us.

Every day,

year after year,

you put up with our immature self.

You are not just teaching us a subject,

but you are teaching us the way of life.

You teach us to never give up.

You teach us to follow our hearts.

You teach us to love ourselves.

But sadly,

somewhere along the line

we forgot about the beauty you brought to our world.

We were blinded for so long,

about the power teachers have over their students.

But see,

if someone asked me who my hero was,

I would say you.

You take at least six hours out of your day,

to help prepare us for the real world.

We walk around high school

acting like we do not need you.

But if it was not for you,

we would have not become the person we are today.

You push us to be better.

You help us when we are struggling.

You encourage us to work harder.

Most importantly,

you catch us before we fall.

You really are the definition of a superhero,

and we want to say thank you.

Thank you for listening,

thank you for understanding,

and thank for you never giving up on us.

We took you for granted,

when you were our biggest fan.

You were always cheering us on,

and we never appreciated you.

But,

that never stopped you from giving us your all.

And even though you are no longer teaching us,

your wise words will stay with us forever.

We know you will continue to watch over us,

as we develop and grow into our true-self.

You are not just our superhero,

but our guardian angel.

While we were in high school,

you helped us achieve our goals.

You used every piece of your intelligence,

just to help prepare us for our next chapter.

Now,

as we are in college,

you watch us excel from a distance.

And once we graduate college,

we can only hope to make you proud.

For you know what we truly are capable of.

So,

we will continue to push ourselves,

the same way you pushed us throughout the years.

To only hope that we can make you smile,

with all the accomplishments we finally achieved.

15 Times "Parks and Recreation" Summed Up Your Library Experience

"I've only slept nine hours over the past four days, so I'm right on the verge of a nervous breakdown." - Leslie Knope

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

1. When you've finally found the energy to leave your dorm room and walk into the lib like

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

Students walking on a sunny college campus with trees and buildings.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
