To The Girl/Guy Working The Morning Shift At Dunkin',
Wow. Who knew there were people out there willing to take on such a role in society. When they say America runs on Dunkin', they aren't kidding. Seriously, there are, like, eight Dunkin's in my city and all of them are so crowded every day, and I drive around for, like, 20 minutes trying to decide which one is worth it. But honestly? It's always worth it. I mean, I'm too lazy to get out of my car and go inside, but I would wait behind 400 cars if it meant getting to have my plain bagel toasted with cream cheese and medium caramel iced coffee with cream and liquid sugar.
Not everyone is made for a job like that. Let's be real, people are bitches in the morning and sometimes you just don't wanna deal with it. I know I wouldn't, but knowing we have people in this world who put on that noodie and visor and go in daily and make these people coffee that turns them into full humans makes me feel safe in this cold, dark world. And I get it, you guys are only in it for a paycheck and sometimes even tips. America runs on Dunkin'? More like America runs on cold, hard cash so people need their jobs! But some jobs deserve significant recognition and this is one of them.
You know how your science teacher would describe ecosystems like a little society? Every animal and plant plays a role that contributes to this society, and the people who work at Dunkin' are like the rain. All the flowers grow out of the ground and they're like, "Aaaah! It's hot up here! We're dying!" but then the rain comes and it refreshes all the flowers and the plants and helps things thrive and grow. It also brings a really nice smell along with it. That is literally the role that Dunkin' Donuts plays in our human society. It brings life and energy back to people through coffee and bagels and also munchkins, occasionally. It helps us all thrive and make it through our days. The employees at Dunkin' are our direct source. The beautiful rain clouds, if you will.
We are always told to be polite and kind to those who work in retail and especially those who work in food service because no one actually likes food service. But seeing as it is a major industry that requires employees and pays money, people do it but don't usually like it. This is because people can be very rude and inconsiderate to those who are just trying to do their jobs and fulfill your requests, which can be ridiculous sometimes. You may want to blame this person for small mistakes or even things that are out of their control, but don't do such things! Just be as polite as you can and remember that these people work long days sometimes so they're tired, too. They are also most likely sick of your shit. Being nice just makes it that much easier. Also, working at a major chain location providing coffee and other breakfast items is probably hell in the mornings. It's insanely busy and people are in a hurry to go to work/school and can be very impatient and also not in the best of moods because of their crippling caffeine dependencies. Personally, I don't know if I could handle people in that state.
That is why I am so thankful for those girls/guys who get up as early as they do, go in to work, and serve those zombie people each morning. I have an intense loyalty to Dunkin' and go almost daily and I am very glad that there are nice people there everyday giving me coffee (also caffeine dependent) and a bagel, which they always put so much cream cheese on which is exactly how I like it. So to all you Dunkin' employees out there, I am forever grateful and admire your courage and bravery in taking on such an overwhelming job. Actually, is it overwhelming? Everything stresses me out so I would be overwhelmed. But, I see you and I appreciate you and as the teens say, "you the real MVP."
