To the person who brought me down,
I came to you with expectations and enthusiasm because I was a sponge and ready to soak up everything you were going to teach me. I was led to believe that you had my best interest in mind and that every discouraging word that came out of your mouth was because I was not good enough.
The lack of respect I had felt was undeniably affecting my attitude towards something I am passionate about. The idea of insulting me while I was there to learn is unprofessional, but to repeatedly undermine my work and throw it away like it was last week’s trash is humiliating. Day after day, I was left with uncertainty about my future, a growing hatred for you, and most importantly, disappointment in myself.
What I did learn was that there are people who will bring others down to feel a sense of entitlement. People who do not care about anyone other than himself or herself, and feed off of others misery. Coming from someone who has always tried to find the good in everyone, you are truly the worst kind of person. I say this because you were quick to judge, and felt no remorse for your negative comments.
My parents had always told me to stand up for myself and never let anymore treat me the way you had. You took advantage of the fact that I was vulnerable. You lied to me from day one, and continuously hurt me in ways that I thought could never be forgotten. Unlike the saying, “sticks and stones may brake my bones, but words will never hurt me,” words do hurt. Your words broke me down to the point where I no longer believed in my work or myself. I was starting to believe that you were right—I was worthless.
Your condescending remarks still haunt me to this day. For many reasons, I wish I had the courage to walk out and never look back. The sad part about this is that you have moved on and forgotten about me. You had and continue to have no consideration on that an impact you made on my life.
I am aware that you probably will never read this, nor agree with anything I had to say. Instead, I wrote this for those who have felt worthless because of what someone else had said to them. Also, it only feels right to use my “horrible writing skills” to tell you how I feel.
Honestly, I want to say thank you for making me feel worthless. In some twisted, backwards way, you reminded me that I am everything you told me I wasn’t.
