It is OK.

An Open Letter To The Person Who Made Mistakes

To whoever is reading this:

Moments throughout our lives are one of a kind, yet we try to compare our mistakes to everyone else's. Why, though? Why must we try to compare ourselves? No individuals are alike, yet people try to define us by our mistakes. Your mistakes will never define you; they sometimes make you clean.

Throughout my own life, I have let individuals ridicule me due to my own personal mistakes. I am here to tell you that you are not perfect. Now, I know that this is hard to accept, but it is the honest truth. No one can ever be perfect no matter if you are putting in 100 percent into everything you do. Humans will always fall short no matter the smaller area of failure.

This week—this week in a long run has been one of the most emotional weeks of my life. You learn more about yourself when you finally hit rock bottom than you do when you are at your highest moment. I have learned that at the end of the day, the only opinion that matters is yours. You are the one who has to look into the mirror and say I am OK with who I am. I am OK with the decision I made today.

Certain people in my life have made it especially difficult for me to let me become the person I am. No, I am not a child and yes, you are my parent—but in the end, I will make my own choices and at the end of the day, I will deal with the consequences. You cannot keep dictating me on how to live my life when you do not want to be a part of it unless there is something in it for you.

Also, when it comes to not feeling special. Stop it right there. You do not need to belittle yourself. You are important, and you are your own definition of "beautiful and worthwhile."

To all the girls that are stuck on someone, don't be. So what if you didn't find your perfect match with this last guy. You need to realize the value of your own self-worth and realize that it's OK to not be OK. You are allowed to have a meltdown but you need to realize that the world is not going to stop when you have this meltdown. You are going to be OK. You will find the perfect one for you in due time. Just be patient, because God has a plan for you.

Now, since we all need to learn that it is OK not to be perfect, we need to learn that we have to stick up for ourselves no matter if we hurt another persons feelings. Yes. That you are possibly picking the worst career choice of your life. It does not matter what you want me to do with my life, it is my choice. So if someone wants to judge you and ridicule you, then they need to reevaluate their own selves.

Remember, you got this. Keep calm and moving along because you never know the moments you are missing out on.

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
