There are so many opportunities in this world to change who you are. It is in our daily lives that we witness the influence that social media, friends, and popular culture has on people’s behavior and more importantly who they are. When you still don’t know who you want to be in life, it’s important to stop paying attention to everyone around you and focus on the girl in the mirror. Who does that girl want to be?
There’s nothing worse than feeling lost in a world where everyone else seems to have it all figured out, but all those people have a secret. They don’t know what the hell they are doing or who they are yet, either. You aren't alone in the search. Don’t let who you surround yourself with influence who you are meant to be. Be your own person. This world already has way too many imitations, it’s up to you to be the original and not just another copy.
In order to find yourself you have to open up to everything you’ve ever experienced. Too many times you tend to forget about the pain and only think of the happiness. As time passes and pain turns to distant memories, foggy and dreamlike, you must wake them up. The excruciating pain of the time you were cheated on, the agonizing loss of your loved one, and even the sorrow of not getting to go to your dream school, they all need to be remembered before you can find who you are meant to be. All the experiences we face every second of every day shape us. They make us who we are destined to be. Take all those adventures from your life and allow them to start to shape who you are supposed to be.
Once you find yourself all, your fears, all the worrying, and all the confusion will cease to exist as you are just beginning to. You’ll be able to figure out what you want from your relationship or job or just life in general. Once you have conquered that task, everything will fall into place. Life will have never seemed so simple and enthralling. Be patient, you can’t expect life to give you all the answers but you can pay attention to the hints it gives. You have a lifetime to figure out who you are meant to be in this crazy and tumultuous world so focus on the experiences, whether they be good or bad, because in the long run they are only meant to help you find your way. As E.E. Cummings once said, “It takes courage to grow up and be who you are,” so hold on to that courage and run with it and eventually you’ll reach that finish line.
