Thank You For Putting Up With Me

An Open Letter To My Roommates As Told By Gifs

College roommates are unlike any other: They’ve seen you at your best, 20 minutes prior to leaving the house on a ‘good day’; your worst, 2 a.m. post-ladies night when you’re lying on the floor regretting the consumption of fireball; and your breakdowns, seems you didn’t nail that exam like you thought you did.

They know your habits. Your study habits, or lack thereof. Your laundry methods, probably 'throw it all on the floor until you have to decide between commando or whites-day.' And of course, your eating habits, more carbs than you're proud of and a lot of past-due bags of salad.

They pick up after you, wake you up for class and insist that those shoes totally go with that outfit. They’re a mini support system that helps get you through the day and then eventually the most exhausting four years of your life. You're a tad messy and then there's the charming way you barge in their room post-bars to tell them something that they will inevitability forget come morning time. You’ve become a close-knit bunch, a squad, a family of sorts.

So I would like to say thank you to the women that have managed to deal with bad my habits.

Thank you for laughing with me when I wake up Saturday morning and realize that I made a fool out of myself, courtesy of cheap vodka. Thank you for also enjoying cheap vodka. Most importantly, thank you for making a fool out of myself with me.

Thank you for knowing me well enough to know when I’m having a bad day. For recognizing when I’m down and for blasting Fifth Harmony with me, for dancing on the couches and singing (screaming) to the ceiling.

Thank you for lounging with me. When I decide to take a personal day, I can count on you to be right there with me. Thank you for telling Netflix that we are indeed still watching Gilmore Girls. Thank you for dealing with my weird obsession with documentary films, thank you for enjoying them as well.

Thank you for motivating me, for group study nights and healthy academic competition. Thank you for picking me up when I didn’t do my best and for congratulating me when I do. Thank you for listening to my presentations and helping me with ideas for my articles.

Thank you for your other friends, for the honorary roommate who takes out our trash and sometimes does our dishes. For your fratty-est of friends who always make me feel welcome at their house.

Thank you for wine nights accompanied by cooking shows, for getting weirdly excited about Master Chef Jr. and Cupcake Wars.

Thank you for sharing your clothes, because between the three of us there is always something to wear.

Thank you for nights outs, for ridiculous Snapchat stories and questionable Tweets. Thank you for taking my phone when I’m getting nostalgic. Thank you for hazy nights, followed by overpriced breakfast food.

Thank you for being live-in friends, without whom I would be much less functional and much more miserable.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
