Here's some things I need to thank you for.
If anyone deserves some recognition it is
100% you.
1. Thank you for being my
Best Friend.
One time, when I was in second grade everyone
was talking about who their best friend was.
Without skipping a beat, I knew who mine was.
Of course, when you're in second grade and you're
as awkward as me, you don't say that your mom's
your best friend. That's just weird. So I didn't say that
you were my best friend, but it's the thought that counts,
right? I'm going with yes. You're my favorite person to
talk to and as long as I'm with you I know it's going
to be an adventure.
2. Thank you for teaching
me I'm not entitled to a thing.
You built my happy place, but you never handed
me a position. When I earned a seat in manager
meetings it made it so much more special that I
accomplished that by myself. You have taught me
how to lead from the back. When hard labor needs
to be done you are always the first person to start.
You don't bark orders. You lead by example.
You grouted tile in our house while you were 9 months
pregnant. You never walk past the sink if it has dirty
dishes in it. I know from example that no matter if I
am a billionaire or the queen of England (I would
say USA if we had queens) that I am never to good to
get my hands dirty and sweat a little.
3. Thank you for always making
time for me even when you're
busy.
I think when I got my blood clot it was the absolute
worst time. You had meetings packed that Friday.
One's you could have went to, but it never crossed
your mind to leave my side. You slept on a coach in
the hospital for three nights. If y'all know Bethanne
Mashburn you know she's a trooper, but if there is one
thing she is a little particular about, it is her bed. She
never complained though. When I frantically call her
because I suck at math and think I'm going to fail.
She always answers. It's like she knows if my call
is important. I know I outweigh your work and I know
first hand how much you love your job. That means the
world and proves how good of a mom you are.
4. Thanks for teaching me
by example to persist when
faced with fear.
You have endured some of the toughest things
people should have to go through and you always
come out on top. It's not my story to tell, but just
trust me when I say my mom is stronger than most
men. My mom does not make decisions based on
her emotions. She is the perfect balance of soft and
strong. She is fierce. She is who every girl should
look up to.
5. Thanks for pushing me to
order my own food.
I was really shy, but I overcame it. I was forced to
overcome it and in that moment, I hated that you did that
to me, but now I know it was the right thing. You taught
me to persevere even when I'm scared. You taught me
to be like you. You taught me that being brave is being
scared and doing it anyway. For me that was something
that didn't look brave to anyone else, but now when I go
to eat I always order my own food and my heart rate
doesn't even go up.
I could go on and on about all the many things
you have taught me, but I'll leave it with this.
Being told that I am just like you is the second
best compliment I have ever received. The
first is that you want me to be me. I know
that growing up with a mom like you I am
destined to be great. You are inspiring.
You are zealous. You are fierce. You make
the world a better place.
