Growing up, you two were always a pain in my butt. But eventually, I began to really appreciate you both for your craziness, horrible singing, strange quirks and even your outlandishly tall heights. Now that I am about to go to college, I'm having a lot of trouble thinking about not being near you two next year. And yes, I know I have always talked about how much I want to grow up, but now that the time has come, I don't want to and you won't want to either. It's getting scarier and scarier by the day to think I'll be gone in such little time. Sam and Luke, this letter is for the two of you.
Dear best friends,
In about six months, I will be headed off to college. That is scary for you guys and me. I am going to be scared because I won't always be around to protect you, beat you up, yell at you, hug you, sit at the dinner table with you and constantly yell at the top of my lungs "I love you" from my room. Yeah, I know everyone in the house thinks it's pretty annoying and you all just want me to shut up so you can do your homework, but you'll miss it soon enough! You guys mean so much to me that it is impossible to put into words.
But leaving is another part of life. You guys will have to stick up for one another and suck up to mom and dad when you aren't the one in trouble for a change. Here are a few tips you should each bear in mind as you continue throughout middle school and high school!
Sam: STAY WEIRD. You know you are the strangest person I know (with the exception of myself), and you should also know that's a good thing. Also, it would be much appreciated if you stopped growing because I fit perfectly into your shirts and jackets at this point (and I can't wait to bring some of those cute clothes to college). Ignore all of the drama that surrounds you. It will make you unhappy, and that's just not good for anyone. You need to keep a positive attitude about everything and remember to always have fun. Do whatever you love and don't think about what anyone will say. You deserve the best because you are the best.
Luke: STOP GROWING! When I make my visits back home you'd better not be a foot taller than me every time I return! Continue to do what you love: reading, playing with friends, playing sports, watching sports with mom and dad, annoying Sam and smiling. Don't stop smiling! You've got one of the best smiles ever and it lights up every room you walk into.
Both of you—thank you. Thank you for teaching me so much about friendship and courage. You guys will always be my best friends. Just because I'm leaving doesn't mean I won't be reachable by phone still—so call me! Always! I love you guys.
Tons of love,
Your big sister
