College is a funny place. Remember that moment when your parents dropped you off in front of your dorm building? We packed up our lives at home, and headed to a foreign land where we were surrounded by a bunch of people who were just trying to adjust to a brand new environment. While in the same breath, trying to experience what college was all about while not getting arrested in the first week.
One of the absolute best parts of college is the friends you have the chance to meet. There is nothing quite like being placed on a floor with a bunch of strangers just awaiting the moment when you all come together and finally meet.
Whether it's in the girls bathroom at 3 in the morning complementing your soon to be best friends outfit while severely intoxicated, or joining a random dorm room pre game party before heading out to a ratchet frat house... we have ALL experienced it. And chances are.. these people are now some of your closest friends.
To all of my freshman year college best friends.. I want to say THANK YOU. Thank you for making a scary, out of element situation, the most normal feeling in the world.
These friends are like no other.. and I am sure you can agree. There is that special bond that you can't quite describe but it's there. Those memories that linger on year after year that you can barely describe to others without sounding like a complete psychopath. Like how you ended up with only half the group at the infamous pizza place at 1 in the morning just to recharge and go back out for round 2.
This amazing and crazy group of people were not only a text away, but a few doors away. How crazy is that? Whenever I think back to freshman year of college being almost a senior now, it blows my mind that I lived on a floor with my best friends. I mean how awesome is that!? Although I could have done without the constant knocking on my door when I was just trying to get in my daily nap. Whether it was for a study session, a helping hand, or an extra fork when you spent all your money on alcohol, they were always there.
And you can't forget about those midnight drives to the middle of nowhere (and occasionally Mcdonalds) when studying for finals just got to be a little too much.
Although things may have changed for you sophomore, junior, or senior year... just know that those freshman year friends value the memories and friendships just as much as you did. It's okay that things changed, because frankly if it didn't life would be very boring.
So to my freshman year best friends.. yes you!!!! I love you. You made an amazing year even more amazing. So thank you, and thank god what happens in Elwell hall stays in Elwell hall (Insert dorm building here).
