Dear Kheaa Verify,
I’m writing this letter to you to tell you that my semester hasn’t been as great as it can be due to the process you have put me through. I know that you have to do what you do to prevent people from lying about their income to the amount of money they made, but I promise that my financial situation hasn’t changed in just over a year.
It all started when I came to college and received my financial aid package before I was placed under your care, and the process you put me through wasn’t as bad as it is currently and I didn’t complain because a lot of people get placed under your process, but that now isn’t the case.
I’ve talked to several people who have been placed under your watch or “verification process,” and they too wonder why your system only brings them the same amount of stress and anger as you have brought me. You say that we are selected “randomly” every year, and it seems as if the people in college who make the least are constantly placed under this system. Friends that I’ve made in college have left due to their financial coming in late or not being enough because they were constantly required to send you the information needed only to have other information requested – which isn’t fair at all.
Financial Aid is something that A LOT of college student depend on just to be able to come to college, and getting your package so late in the year causes problems in a variety of ways. The many trips to the Financial Aid Office become pointless as it becomes this huge waiting game, and you don’t even know if you’ll be able to make it to the next semester because you don’t know if the money will ever come in on time.
Listen, I know that it sounds as if I’m against you – but I’m not. I believe that your methods of verification should be changed to make it easier for people to prove that the money needed is truly the money needed.I wish that it didn’t take nearly 2 weeks for the documents to process, as it already might be a point in the year where it may be too late to accept your financial awards.
For the past two years I have not been able to receive important grant money or great work opportunities because of the sudden need to prove that my single mother at home doesn’t make enough money for me to fully be able to pay my college expenses. Again, I say, do you really think she’s managed to hit the lottery in the year or suddenly gained a pay raise to where she can support herself, myself, and my college tuition?
So please, hear me out and make it easier for students in the future to navigate themselves and their family through your process so they weren’t put under the stress that I’ve been under along with many other people.
Sincerely,
A poor and worn-out college student
