An Open Letter From God To His Daughters

I created you to find joy and happiness in your purpose, and not for how you look on a Friday night.

My precious daughter,

I know your heart and I hear your thoughts. When you stand in the mirror and complain about how your "hair is too thin," your "thighs are too large," and that your hips are "too wide"— I hear it. I know the thoughts you have about your stomach and your pimples, especially when it comes to that time of the month. I hear you complain about wanting a bigger butt and a smaller waist. I see you when you stalk those random girls on social media who look like you wish you did. I hear your comparisons. I even heard the tears you tried to hide from me the night that boy broke your heart and you thought it was because you weren't pretty enough.

I hear it all and it breaks my heart.

I know you think you aren't pretty enough, but you need to understand that I did not create you to be enough for this world. I did not create you even for this world. I created you for something more important than having a hot guy comment the fire emoji on your bikini picture. I created you for something bigger than getting 100 likes on that selfie you posted. I created you to be in a relationship with me. I created you to find joy and happiness in your purpose, and not for how you look on a Friday night.

I intricately designed you. Every part of you. Every inch of you, from head to toe— your freckles, your grin, your ears, your laughter, all the things you love about yourself and all the things you despise about yourself— I adore it all. I made you exactly how I wanted you to be.

Maybe someone in this world has told you that you are ugly. Maybe you have heard comments that other insecure girls have made about your physical appearance. Maybe that one boy dumped you for no reason and you're so sure it's because you gained those few pounds you tried so hard not to.

My child, they are wrong. This world is so wrong. The world may tell you that you aren't pretty enough, but I say that you are altogether beautiful, my love. There is no flaw in you. The world may tell you that life is better if you look like a model, but the reality is you find more joy in this life when you walk with me. The truth is, you are beautiful, and created the way you were for an incredibly unique reason. You are my masterpiece, my greatest artwork and my most prized creation. Every inch of you is beautiful, and your ability to walk with me is your greatest and most beautiful gift.

I want you to know you’re worthy, my child. I want you to know that you may never be pretty enough for this world, but this world has no importance. You are far more than just "pretty enough" for me. You were created the way you are for a reason. Your purpose is your best accessory, so be proud of it.

You may not feel beautiful all the time, but I promise, I hung the stars and painted the sea and made you in the image of me, and that is beautiful.

You are mine,

God

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
