An Open Letter to My Best Friends

To my best friends,

You know who you are.

I just want to say thank you.

You have been there through everything.

Thank you for the endless laughs, thank you for the sleepless nights where we talk about anything and everything, thank you for turning everything into a positive situation, thank you for loving me even in my hardest times, thank you for never leaving my side, thank you for participating in everything with me even when you believe it to be a bad idea, thank you for your constant support, thank you for your love and appreciation, and most of all, thank you for being you.

You are the best thing that has ever happened in my life, and without you I have no idea where I would be.

Best friends will come and go, but I know I got lucky when I found you. God really was looking down on me when he introduced us. He knew we would be forever friends and that we would end up really needing each other in our times of need.

I want you to know how much I appreciate you because I know I may not say it as much as I should.

I hope one day I can show you the friendship you show me consistently each and every day.

You need to know that you are so loved. You are so important. You mean so much to not only me, but to everyone else you come in contact with as well. You are an inspiration for what friendship means and a role model for how people should treat the ones they love. You have such an amazing heart and you constantly give and give without expecting anything in return.

Although sometimes we may go periods of time without seeing each other, I want you to never forget that I am always there for you. I will never let you down. If you call me at 2 a.m. just needing someone to talk to, I'm your girl. I can promise you that whenever you feel down or alone, I will be there.

I want you to know that you deserve everything in this world. You deserve to be so insanely happy in everything you do. You deserve to be treated with the utmost respect. You deserve to be loved even on your worst days. You deserve a helping hand in everything you do.

Basically, I want you to know how thankful I am for our friendship. It means the world to me and always will. Thank you for being my person, and thank you for being my number one supporter in everything I do. You rock, so keep being yourself.

XOXO,

Maddie

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
