There are many Disney princes out there—Prince Phillip, the prince from Cinderella, the prince from Snow White, Prince Adam (the Beast from Beauty and the Beast), Prince Hans (the evil one), Prince Naveen, and then there are the ones who aren’t technically princes but they’re lumped under that category (Kristoff, Aladdin, Flynn Rider/Eugene, etc.).
However, in this article, I’m going to talk about the best Disney prince, Prince Eric.
I’ve watched "The Little Mermaid" over and over again, and each time I am amazed at Prince Eric. He’s kind, caring, adventurous, respectful and an all-around great guy.
My first point on Eric is that he’s kind. Since everyone has seen "The Little Mermaid," I don’t need to warn about spoiler alerts. In this movie, Ariel falls in love with Eric at first sight and saves him from drowning. He hears her voice and knows that she’s the girl he wants to marry. Ariel basically sells her voice for human legs to be with him and needs to get a true love’s first kiss to keep her legs. That’s the deal with Ursula. When Eric finds her on the shore, at first, he thinks she’s not the one, but he takes her in anyway. He gives her a place to stay, after only getting nods from her. To him, she’s a total stranger, but he’s still kind enough to let her into his home. He makes sure she gets everything she needs. A bath, clothes, food and even her own room.
The beginning of the movie starts off with Eric out on the sea, enjoying himself. Almost like he’d rather be a sailor than a prince! Oh, to have that adventure every day. Not to mention he’s caring for his dog, Max. When the ships get set on fire from the lightning, he didn’t just abandon him, he made sure Max got off before himself, along with everyone else on board. And if it wasn’t for Ariel, he would’ve died protecting everyone else.
Last but not least, also my favorite point about him, Eric is respectful. Ariel can’t speak at all, she can’t verbally consent to anything. He only kissed her when she could actually talk. Not once before. There was a moment before on the boat but then he leaned back and shook his head. The only answers he accepted from her were if she wanted to go see his kingdom and if she wanted to steer the carriage, and when he was trying to guess her name.
He's just a great guy. He fights for her, is kind to her, cares for her, and respects her. It's an example to follow on how to treat a lady, not just taking Ursula's advice on body language.
