An Ode To Cookout

You are a blessing to every college town in the south.

An Ode To Cookout
Cookout

What would a college experience be without late night trips to Cookout with your friends on a weekly basis? Well, probably not a very good college experience. Cookout was great in high school, but I never realized how truly great it was until I moved to college. There is nothing quite like pulling up to the drive-thru at 1 a.m. when you’re desperately craving chicken nuggets and seeing that glowing menu just waiting for you.

Cookout, thank you for having the cheapest prices around. You give hope to so many broke (and hungry) college students everywhere. I can’t say I feel bad for the amount of money I’ve spent at Cookout, because my order is always cheap and never disappointing. Only have $5? No worries, the possibilities are endless. Whether you’re feeling a burger and fries, chicken tenders or just a milkshake, you’ll always leave with a full stomach and a happy heart.

Let’s just talk about the quality of the food. Normally with these prices you would probably expect something mediocre, on a good day. But not at Cookout. I will never forget the first time I tried it, thinking it was just some overrated cheap burger place. Boy was I wrong. You can always count on your food being fresh and your milkshake being perfectly mixed.

One of the best parts of Cookout might be the fact that they are open at just about any hour of the day. Maybe it’s midnight and you realize you haven’t had a chance to eat dinner. Or maybe you’ve let almost the entire night go by without realizing it and all you can think about is getting a milkshake at 4 a.m. You know where to go.

Cookout, thank you for everything. Thank you for being there for me during the darkest hours of the night when I wanted nothing more than some quality french fries and honey mustard. Thank you for some of the best service, even when it’s a Saturday night and the drive-thru line is wrapped around the building, or when my friends and I pull up reading off five different orders at once. Thank you for being my place. You are a blessing to every college town in the south, and you are always appreciated.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
