My mother is a proud creator of four children. I prefer calling her Mrs. Professional Caretaker. Mrs. Professional Caretaker is experienced in dealing with kids—more specifically, four of them. My mother is a trustworthy, humorous, and ambitious person who is always there for me. Coming from an Asian society of having fewer children, I was curious about her experiences and intricacies of her decision to have four children.
What is the best and worst thing about being a mother of four?
The house is always lively—I'm never lonely and I receive so much energy from the kids. I believe they're so beautiful and full of unique talents. Sometimes, I feel like I don't, or can't, give equal attention and care to every single one of them. I want to give them the same amount of love and attentiveness, but it's very challenging and stressful.
Were you planning on how many children you wanted?
Yes. Originally, my husband and I planned on having 3 children.
How did you find the labour after giving birth to your fourth child?
Well, it wasn't any different from the previous three. I had two surgical births and two natural births. I felt like I died four times. It's a miracle that I'm still alive.
What is the hardest thing about having four kids running around the house?
They always get into fights, and it makes me so frustrated. I feel like a bunch of bees are buzzing around inside my head. Usually, two of them gang up on the other two, and they always switch against each other. It's stressful.
What's the typical reaction you receive when you tell people you have four children?
"Oh~", is the first thing they say. People are always surprised.
What are some not-so-good points of having four kids?
Having a lot of kids, my spouse is always out and about on business trips for work so he can financially support a family of six. We don't get to spend quality time with him and we're always financially burdened.
Did you learn any life lessons while raising four kids?
Yes. I feel like the more kids I have, the better responsible person I become. I have a more expanded point of view of the world and I've become more generous. I improved in my time management and organization skills.
Would you recommend having four children?
Definitely. It's lovely.
What are some tips you want to give to future mothers?
You should be mentally and physically strong. Think good thoughts, read good books, and make sure to eat properly!
The hardest question of all: Who's your favorite?
