An Infinite Number Of Thanks

This time of the year is all about giving thanks for all the items you possess and all the people you love.

Thanksgiving is a time all about giving thanks to all of the things we have been blessed with. Many of us are blessed with wonderful possessions, but Thanksgiving to me is more about letting those you love know how special they are to you, and how grateful you are to them. As we enter the holiday season, here are just a few things I am thankful for.

1. My Friends

Friends are one of life's greatest blessings. They are there for all the best memories, and there to be a shoulder to cry on in the worst. Whether you have one friend or a hundred friends, friends are always someone good to have around during the holidays.

2. My Family

The holidays are filled with many family gatherings. Whether or not you have a whole herd of extended family at Thanksgiving dinner or just your immediate family, it's always good to have the people you love the most near. The holidays for us college students means getting to go home for breaks, and while we may say that we are just excited to be home for the food, we are also counting down the days in which we get to see our family. We can't wait to finally have a home-cooked meal, but we also can't wait to walk through the door and see our dad's face light up when he sees us, and hug our mom around the neck as she squeezes us tightly.

3. My Dog

Dogs are such amazing creatures. They may run into walls and poop everywhere, but nothing makes me happier than to see my dog run at me full force when I come home. Because as we are getting older, so are they, and owning a dog is such an incredible blessing. There is nothing quite like petting and running around with your dog to get you in a good mood.

4. My Hometown

A lot of people say that living in a small town is a curse, but that's not the case at all. There's something satisfying about going to the grocery store and knowing most of the people there, or being asked how college is going by people who have seen you grow up your whole life. Living in a small town is a blessing for many reasons, and I absolutely adore my hometown.

5. My Possessions

Everything that I own has come from all of the hard work my parents have put into creating such an amazing life for me. I have so many possessions that I am thankful for, including the roof I live under and the clothes on my back.

There are so many wonderful things to be thankful for. An infinite number of things. This time of year is all about giving thanks to the people that mean the most to us, and I have been so incredibly blessed with all the things in my life.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
