12 Things To Try If You Won't Be Going Away On Spring Break

Not all of us are fortunate enough to spend our spring breaks on a sunny beach or exploring a different country, but that doesn't mean there's no reason to make the most out of your time off from school!

12 Things To Try If You Won't Be Going Away On Spring Break

Spring break is quickly approaching, and if you're not as lucky as some to be spending it on a warm beach or going on a crazy adventure, it doesn't mean you can't enjoy your week off from school! If you're like me and will be spending your spring break back home in the wintery tundra, you're probably endlessly searching for things to keep you occupied and still make your break worthwhile.

Well, good news for you, because I've compiled some ideas on how to make the most of your spring break even if you're not going away:

1. Take a spontaneous day trip.

It doesn't have to be very far, but hop in the car and see where your GPS takes you! Maybe you'll end up driving to a close-by big city for the day or a nearby school to visit some friends. Sometimes, the spontaneity in life creates the best moments.

2. Spend some quality time with your family.

It's probably been a good while since you've seen your family, and I'm sure they've been missing you as much as you've been missing them. Take some time to really show them how much you appreciate them! Maybe take your mom out for brunch, go shopping with your siblings, or catch a movie with your dad.

3. Catch up on all the things you've been dying to binge-watch.

It's hard to get a good Netflix binge-session in between studying for midterms and completing all those projects, and soon your watch list just becomes so long you think you'll never get through it! Well, luckily you've got a whole week to find a comfy spot, get yourself some good snacks, and catch up on all the shows you've had your eye on.

4. Spend the day at the movie theater.

There's some pretty incredible movies out right now, and instead of seeing just one, why not make a day out of it and make it a challenge to see how many movies you can watch in one day?! Make sure you have an extra-large popcorn and soda in tow.

5. Go on a shopping spree.

Sometimes you have to show yourself some love for all the hard work you've been putting in at school. Take a trip to some of your favorite stores and splurge on whatever fancies you!

6. Catch up on sleep.

This one's pretty self-explanatory. There's no need to set an alarm, so don't! Let your body catch up on some much needed zzz's.

7. Explore nature.

We never take enough time to appreciate the natural world, so grab a coat, put on some sneakers, and take a walk through the woods or a local nature preserve. Whether it's snowing or the sun in shining, there's always beautiful sights to see and so much to appreciate when you're by yourself with just the sounds of nature to surround you.

8. Have an at-home spa day.

Get yourself some face masks, nail polish, and anything else that you could think of to pamper yourself and just let yourself relax.

9. Try somewhere new to eat.

Explore a restaurant that you've never been to before, whether it be with friends, family, or yourself!

10. Volunteer.

Every town has tons of opportunities for people to give back to those less fortunate than themselves. Whether it's a soup kitchen, animal shelter, hospital, etc., look into seeing if you can spend the week giving back to those who truly need it!

11. Get yourself into a new hobby.

Being back at home is the perfect opportunity to try out something new! Maybe it's yoga, baking, or painting...you have a whole week to find yourself something fun that interests you!

12. Become a tourist in your own town.

Check out all of the known "touristy" locations in your hometown like you've never been to them before! It'll give you a really cool and new perspective on where you come from, and it's also fun to pretend to be a tourist for the day.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
