I was shopping with my mom and cousin the other day. We walk into Forever 21, one of my favorite stores. As my cousin and I are looking for clothes, I become extremely frustrated. Less than a year ago I could fit into a small from anywhere, now, it's rare. I know for a fact I have not grown an inch or gained more than 10 pounds, my hips are the same width all around, you can ask my doctor!
Yet, I need almost a large in everything now.
However, what made me the most upset, was the "Plus Size" section. My first thing is, why is it in a whole different section of the store in a corner by itself. Then, you have the actual sizes. Can someone please explain to me what the hell a "0X" is?
Oh but this is the best part, the mannequins. In the plus size section they have mannequins all around, and you want to know what "plus size" mannequins look like.
I'm sorry but that is literally an average sized woman.
I just want designers and companies to stop holding these unrealistic standards of women. I walked into Aerie and a size small shirt looked like it was meant for a five year old.
Yes, some people may be that small, but I feel like clothing companies should make clothes that can fit the people who shop there. If I was in Justice, I would've expected to not find clothes that fit me. However, when I go into Pacsun, American Eagle, Forever 21, Windsor, etc. I should not struggle that hard to find clothes. It can also mess with the way girls look at their bodies. I don't care if I have to wear a large, do I consider myself a large person? No, but girls my size might struggle with knowing that they won't fit into a small anymore. I know I did when I bought my first medium sized shirt.
Anyway, the point of this article is that all women (and men of course) are beautiful no matter what shape or size you are. However, companies and clothing designers should be more realistic when designing and making clothes.
