Serving One Community At A Time

Guardian Angels At Work

Service work a term that most people don't truly understand until they've experienced it. When natural disasters hit there are the people who are affect and also there are people who are going above and beyond the simple thing like community service. For the program AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps FEMA Corps the young men and women who join are ask to willing help communities before, during, and after a disaster. Of course they don't have to join, however when they do and they help a community that is been affected by a natural disaster than most people would might consider them some sort of guardian angel.

With my experience of doing the program for two I did feel like I was someone's guardian angel when I did something as simple as listening to what they went through. No one forced me to do and no one force me stay in the program because I didn't need anyone to. The program had taught me so many things like what it meant to be a community and help me grow as a person. For people that think about joining you might look at the benefits of being in the program but there is more to it then just and education award.

Of course even when a natural disaster doesn't hit FEMA Corp is still out there helping communities by assisting the American Red Cross or FEMA as they help rebuild communities that were hit. Also even though FEMA Corps can seem like it's a lot of office the members still help the community out in some way like doing Independent Service projects or just letting people know they are there for them and the community. For me when I was placed in a community that wasn't hit by a natural disaster but had the Red Cross I knew in some way I was going to help the community.

Now FEMA Corps isn't for everyone, however there are other non-profits out there that service communities before, during, and after disasters. Also there are people who service a community just by making sure the people and area are prepared should a natural disaster hit. Of course community service is a great way to help a community, however if you want to be a person who wants to go above and beyond look for programs like AmeriCorps NCCC. Also if you want to gain even more life experiences and grow as a person look into programs like AmeriCorps. Maybe you can end up being some type of guardian angel by joining a program like AmeriCorps NCCC.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
