The NBC TV show "America's Got Talent" is hands down my favorite competition series. Every week, I look forward to Tuesday night so I can see what amazing talent there is in our very diverse nation. Now that it's the live show, fans get to let it consume two nights of their life a week, which is completely okay with me. The part that's probably the best for me is the humor and wit from the judges and the host, Nick Cannon. This glorified talent show is a wonderful opportunity for every person, no matter what gender you are, how old you are, where you're from, or what crazy and ridiculous talent you may have. And this is exactly what has moved me to write about this show.
Every season there are contestants that have amazing and very emotional back stories that are shown before they perform. Everything from them being a cancer survivor, to an immigrant that came from a brutal country, and from someone who lost their loved ones right before their performance, to them explaining how they couldn't fulfill their dreams of having a career in whatever talent they have. It's amazing how all contestants are given an equal chance of winning this show no matter what background they come from.
So I guess what I'm trying to say is that this show is a great way to bring our country together and teach viewers and even contestants how to respect all people despite what they look like, what they do, what disability they may have, and where they come from. Especially since we are in the midst 2016 election, and since there is a lot of negativity in this country breaking us a part, this show represents the positives that this country has to offer. It's a perfect way to take a break from everything that is happening and focus on these very talented and blessed people. In fact, it's a perfect way to represent America itself.
What do I mean by that? For this show, foreigners travel to this country in order to be on this show, because it gives them the opportunity to pursue a career in their talent that they weren't offered in the country they came from. This is what America is about. People from all over the world travel to this country to start a new life here in the greatest nation in the world. This country is here for people to turn to when they're living in heartache and agony somewhere else. They travel here to be FREE.
For this show, there is a very diverse group of talents and people. There's magicians, singers, danger acts, comedians, acrobatics, the list goes on and on. Yet, they are all treated the same. One isn't looked down upon for being a dancer and not a ventriloquist. One talent isn't looked down on for being 80 or 12 and not 30. Both women and men have an equal chance. All skin colors and ethnicities have equal chances. America isn't exactly like this yet, but it's how it SHOULD be. Everyone: black, white, gay, straight, skinny, fat, rich, poor, should be treated equally. We've made a lot of progress, but we're still fighting.
For this show, all the contestants are on the show for a common reason. To do what they love for the rest of their lives. This country is also here to give that opportunity. Many have fought to give us the freedom to be able to pursue what we love to do for the rest of their lives. It may not seem like it at all times, but it's true in most cases. Obviously, unlike the show, we won't be awarded one million dollars, but if we work hard enough, we could get there doing what we love.
This is what this show means to me, and probably many other people. It made me realize how much we may take this country for granted. It has helped me look at the world from a different perspective; there's a lot of positives in this country even if it may not seem it. So, congratulations to everyone who has won the show! And good luck to this season's contestants, I can't wait to see who wins! Viewers: don't forget to not only vote for your favorite AGT act, but also vote for the presidential election this November!
