Will the Sole Survivor Please Stand Up?

American Horror Story: Roanoke - Chapter 9
The Hollywood Reporter

As Negan said from The Walking Dead, "Are we pissing our pants yet?" Last week proved brutal as Shelby (Lily Rabe) and Dominick (Cuba Gooding, Jr.) succumbed to the darkness in the house. Meanwhile, Audrey (Sarah Paulson), Lee (Adina Porter), and Monet (Angela Bassett) were at the mercy of the real Polk family and their cannibal ways. But the real kicker? When Dylan (Wes Bentley), the actor who portrayed Ambrose, arrives at the house miraculously untouched (for now). So the question remains: who is the sole survivor of the Roanoke Nightmare?

Enthusiasts and owners of fansite "Army of Roanoke",Sophie (Taissa Farmiga), Todd (Jacob Artist) and Milo (Mark Bass) have decided to entice their fans with an episode focused around the Roanoke property during the Blood Moon. Armed with GoPros strapped to helmets, they investigate and come across a woman who looks a little worse for the wear. Unfortunately, it is Diana Cross (Shannon Lucio), Sidney's (Cheyenne Jackson) former assistant. As Diana makes chase, the group of young filmmakers happen upon Diana's car....and her dead body inside. When later questioned by police, they are advised that Diana's body was missing and to stay away from the property.

Meanwhile, we get to officially meet Dylan: war veteran turned actor. Dylan, who had been holed up in his hotel with no word from Sidney, decided to arrive via Uber to the Roanoke home and carry out his Piggy Man role as he was paid to do. Audrey and Lee immediately break down that 4th wall and show Dylan the true Roanoke bloodbath. Dylan instantly wants to spring into action, gathering from the ladies that the Polk farm will provide them with transportation and weapons to escape.

At the Polk compound, Dylan immediately formulates a plan: he will hot-wire the truck while Audrey goes to locate Monet and Lee locates the tape. The window of opportunity is small but no matter what, with or without what they came for, the group will leave in the truck. With a plan in action, Audrey runs into the weed farm, immediately locating a gun in the drawer. Hearing a noise, she finds Monet tied up on the other side of the room. Lee, determined to find the video of her confession, locates the camera.

When Dylan gives the signal to make their escape, Ishmael (Frank Collison) and Lot (Frederick Koehler) Polk make their presence known. Lot is able to incapacitate Dylan, but Ishmael quickly learns hell hath no fury like a woman scorned when Audrey coerces him into a video confession of his murder intentions, followed by her shooting him in the head. Audrey and Monet locate Lee, taking the video camera, but it is too late. The Blood Moon is full and the settlers are ready to take their bounty.

The group becomes separated again, this time with Audrey and Monet fleeing to the house, Lee running through the woods alone. As they are now caught in the last place they should be, both Audrey and Monet use the time to review the video footage that Jether (Finn Wittrock) has recorded of their kidnapping. At first, Audrey believed that the footage was for police evidence. But upon further inspection, Monet & Audrey are horrified when Lee's confession to Mason's murder becomes their knowledge. As they continue to watch, we see Lee in the forest, approached by the Witch of the Wood with a pig's heart ready to accept the same deal that the Butcher had taken. Lee, seeing no other option, accepts and eats the heart.

Sophie, Todd, and Milo return to the Roanoke property, blatantly ignoring thepolice orders for the sake of website clicks. What we learn once this story-hungry trio returns is that their timeline coincides with current events. While Sophie has visions of satisfied viewers, Todd spots Lee Harris wandering on the property and takes the chance to feed the ratings. But this is a mistake, as Lee (having offered herself to the Witch) kills Todd in front of Sophie and Milo. They escape and find their way to the production trailer, locking themselves in as they attempt to contact the authorities with minimal luck. Noticing the camera feeds, the young filmmakers decide they have to help Audrey & Monet as they see Lee making her way to them.

In an effort to ride out the night in style, Audrey and Monet proceed to get drunk and lock themselves in the master bedroom. Startled by noises outside of the door, they emerge from their safety to find Lee outside, vacantly staring into space and muttering to herself. Unsure of her intentions, they attempt to approach her with no initial response. Almost like a switch, Lee then turns on Monet and tosses her over the banister where she is impaled by the chandelier. Audrey flees the property, going straight for the root cellar when Lee catches up to her and attacks her with the cleaver, leaving Audrey to die.

Sophie and Milo make it to the house, where video footage shows that the settlers have apprehended an injured Dylan. However, this brief moment of relief is short-lived when Dylan suffers the same fate as Cricket: being sliced open and his intestines pulled out. The settlers turn and grab Sophie and Milo, with Lee being at the helm of the group. Pleading for their lives, Lee speaks in butcheresque language about consecration of the land. The documentary then explains that they have secured Todd's final footage on his ICloud account. In that footage, the audience watches Sophie and Milo are impaled on stakes and lit on fire.

The next morning, as the Blood Moon is now over, police enter the property to the horrifying images outside of the house: a charred Sophie & Milo and gutted Dylan. Securing the scene, one officer spots Lee, who begins to panic and scream when she sees the bloodbath that has occurred. Placing her in the back of the police car, it is then discovered that Audrey has pulled herself out of the cellar and managed to survive the night. When Lee attempts to approach her, Audrey snaps and grabs the officer's gun, but not before the cops turn Audrey's body into swiss cheese. Lee has become the only survivor of the Blood Moon.

With one episode left, viewers are treated to a crossover treat as Lana Winters (Sarah Paulson) from American Horror Story: Asylum invites Lee onto her show for an interview. What will we learn from Lee's experience at Roanoke? Did she manage to elude the authorities? Join me next week for the season finale of American Horror Story: Roanoke!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
