Amanda Bynes: What Went Wrong?

Amanda Bynes grew up in Los Angeles, California. She first got her start on the popular television show “All That” when she was just 10 years old. If that wasn’t enough, at the age of just 13 she was given her own television show called “The Amanda Show.” I remember watching that show as a young girl, I even had a couple episodes on DVD; that’s how popular the show was. In 2002, she was also cast in the movie “Big Fat Liar” with co-star Frankie Muniz, and the following year with a role in “What A Girl Wants,” continuing her blossoming fame within just her teenage years. In addition to her acting roles, she was also going to high school full time, earning straight A’s.

Later, in 2006, Bynes was on the rise to even bigger stardom with roles in well-known movies like “Easy A” with Emma Stone, and the musical “Hairspray” with many notable actors. Just as her career seemed like it was just about to take off even further, she announced that she was done with acting at the age of 24. About the sudden statement, Bynes added, "I've never written the movies and TV shows I've been apart of. I've only acted like the characters the producers or directors wanted me to play. Being an actress isn't as fun as it may seem ... I don't love acting anymore so I've stopped doing it." That was that, or so it seemed.

With her acting career behind her, it was thought that we wouldn’t hear much about her, but boy were we all wrong. This is when Bynes’ behavior spiraled out of control. Just months after she announced her retirement from acting she rescinded her announcement and stated that she was “un-retiring.” Since that statement, she hasn’t even made a movie.

Then, in April 2012, she was arrested for a DUI after getting in a small accident with a cop car. Later that year, in August, she was accused of a hit and run. This year her DUI charge was dropped in exchange for three years of probation, but that didn’t stop her erratic behavior. She took to social media to gain sympathy for her actions and it was reported that she was seen talking to herself on multiple occasions.

After many other of Bynes’ lunatic actions she was finally put into involuntary psychiatric hold in a psychiatric facility. After her treatment, she moved back in with her parents who had custody over her, and things started to finally look up. But that soon turned sour when she was arrested AGAIN for a DUI charge early this year.

Just this week Bynes had some interesting things to say on Twitter. She reported many accounts of abuse from her father and said, “My dad never did any of those things. The microchip in my brain made me say those things but he's the one that ordered them to microchip me.”

If you ask me, Amanda Bynes needs some serious help, but first she need to accept that she needs help. She can't get better until she realizes that she is not well. A lot of the time the people who need the most help don’t want to believe that they need help. But the real question here is why? Why did she buy one ticket on to the crazy train? I think a lot of it has to do with her early fame and turning to alcohol to solve her many mental problems. But there is help for her out there, she just has to be accepting of it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
