I Am Poetry

I am who I claim to be, told from the view of a metaphor

I Am Poetry

I am fine china.

Never dull, my uniquely patterned style is eccentric vs. your ordinary dinner plate.

Pile, scoop, or plunk the weight of your destitutions on me whenever you hunger for resolution or crave the desire of a listening ear.

Though not flashy or implausibly beautiful, I rely on the optimistic glare of a smile to radiate the elegance sought within a humble center, to which I believe is true beauty.

Gaffes can occur very rarely, but in that moment, I inaudibly hover at the peak of my fall before the groundbreaking pressure and gravity shatters my delicately vulnerable skeleton.

But I always puzzle the broken shards back into a durable structure and continue my duties by serving up my best obliging advice and leaving them satisfied with good company.

I am a train.

Socially, I welcome new peers aboard in hopes of developing a possible friendship as we depart from the Highschool Express Station.

The blueprints to my buildup include hidden compartments, where my secret admiration for historic relics lurks and memories replay in a frozen time loop.

Pitched at an alto, my voice engulfs the room as the whistle is tugged, allowing me to belt a folky twang melody to the surrounding audience.

Determined to be successful, the gears in my head constantly rotate as the will to learn fuels my motivation with new chapter of knowledge.

My routes and schedules can be thoroughly examined in the train’s logbook, or a school agenda, where you can confirm a series of recorded expectations list explaining my thought process.

I am a river.

Eyes glinting with the concoction of a faded blue reflection and a lingering shade of early springtime mist.

Tranquil riverbanks litter the edges of the liquid glass as my patient and quiet demeanor draw strength from the peace.

In a heartbeat, a daring, courageous salmon bounds proudly above the turning waters, as she rebels against the current and challenges the rapids to a race downstream.

With just a turn of the tide, my adventurous side can collide with my steady patience.

But the freedom I yearn so great, as the river and I glance eagerly at the labyrinth stretched before us, that is our guide to the next adventure I seek so deep.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
