All That Glitters

Historic downtown Glendale kicked off its 26th annual Glendale Glitters event Friday, November 29th

All That Glitters

When the sun goes down, the Glendale Glitters lights turn on. Every year, the city of Glendale opens the Arizona's largest light display to the public. 16 blocks are illuminated by over 1.6 billion twinkling lights. This tradition is open from the end of November all the way through the beginning of January 2020. The breath-taking view is priceless, literally and figuratively.

The fare-free attraction gets people from all over the state to take a visit to the charming streets that house Glendale Glitters. It starts at five and goes all the way to 10 p.m. for those late night owls. It's the perfect date night, take the kids out, get of the house activity.

Glendale Glitters has something for everyone. Visitors to the area are sure to find their seasonal favorites including food, entertainment, storytelling and of course Santa Claus.

Unfortunately, due to budget concerns, it looks like the weekend festivals held at Glendale Glitters will be more limited. There will be budget cuts to both Glendale Glitters and the Chocolate Affaire. This is to make more room for a new concert series that will be held in spring of next year. In doing this, the city of Glendale believes having events more spread out through the year will increase foot traffic and attraction to the area. This could potentially bring in more money for the city to continue innovating and expanding as time goes on.

Even though there will be cuts made to Glendale Glitters, the lights will shine on bright this holiday season. For many families this event is seen as one of their traditions through the month of December. A lessening of weekend events won't stop these families from keeping their traditions going.

Make sure to stop by the outdoor light event while you can! Happy holidays.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
