Recently in the news we have seen so many people shot and killed by police officers and other people. Sometimes I wonder why the world has gotten so cold and scary. I would honestly be afraid to bring a child into this world, only because I am terrified myself. Anyone in this life can be what you would call "crazy" or someone could honestly be so scared and react out of that terror. This is not an excuse, but simply a reason why people may react and take action like they do.
My grandmother is the Sheriff of her town — the first female sheriff, might I add. There were plenty of people who did not want her to have the position simply based on the fact that she was a woman. My grandmother abides by the law, by the book! She does not give anyone special treatment and she does not segregate based on the color of their skin. She has also taught me to always have a guard up, but that does not mean she pulls out her gun when she gets the opportunity to shoot someone. You have to be able to communicate with people, and be open. To say she works without fear would be a lie, but she does not let her fears get in the way of her work.
People do not deserve to die; people do not deserve to get shot. These people who are being killed in terrorist attacks and police brutality shootings are someone's sister, brother, cousin, daughter, son, etc. It is absolutely dreadful and devastating. Losing a loved one can drive someone insane. Does someone have to take blame for the action that has taken place? Yes. Do we, as a country who could not be there at the time of the incident, know what actually happened? No. Am I saying the police officers are not to blame? Absolutely not. There are some who continuously abuse power, but there are also some people who abuse their rights, as well.
Every life is precious, and everyone is capable of evil. We do not need to let our hearts fill with hate towards every African American or every police officer; pray instead. Pray for everyone, that they find peace in life. Pray for the ones who have already lost loved ones. Pray for healing in this country. Now is a time when we all need to come together and figure out a solution and find the source of this issue. We are all people, we all have organs, hearts, brains. One's skin may be darker than another, one's job may hold a lot of power but that does not mean either life does not matter. All lives matter, and we can come together and figure this out.
