Five Pieces of Advice We Learned from Parks and Rec
NBC's "Parks and Recreation"

If you've never watched NBC's "Parks and Recreation" before, then you're missing out. Whether your favorite character is April, Andy, Ben, Tom, Donna, or one my personal favorites Ron and Leslie, there's sagacious advice that you can learn from each of them.

Here's five important pieces of advice that I've learned from "Parks and Rec":

1. Never give up.

Exams, terrible professors, and personal crises. Life can sometimes be an absolute struggle. The important thing is that, when life throws us a curveball, dodge and remember to never, ever give up. Think of Leslie Knope.

2. Go with your gut.

Life can be confusing, and that means that we sometimes have no idea as to what the hell we're doing, or whether we are doing things correctly. Always go with your gut, and live along the lines of YOLO (but within reasonable limits). It might be scary at first, but it'll be worth it.

3. Treat yo' self.

Many of us are too caught up with working towards our pathway to success to remember that college is about exploring and enjoying new things. Grab a waffle (and ice cream to go along with it) from Leo's. Forget about the calories. Treat yo' self.

4. Be grateful for your friends.

To be honest, we probably couldn't survive or be where we are without friends. It's nice to know that whatever stupid thing we do, our friends will always have our back. Next time, give your best friends a hug and genuinely say thank you.

5. Be true to yourself and remember your roots.

Let's admit: college will become one of the best periods of our lives because for the first time ever, we are finally free. We are free to embark on cool adventures, free to go to midnight parties, and free to explore the unexplored. But sometimes we lose ourselves in the process of fitting in and playing along with the college culture.

Always be true to yourself, and remember your roots.

The best superpower ever? Being invisible of course. Imagine just being able to go from seen to unseen on a dime. Who wouldn't want to have the opportunity to be invisible? Superman and Batman have nothing on being invisible with their superhero abilities. Here are some things that you could do while being invisible, because being invisible can benefit your social life too.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
