A letter to myself in high school saying the things I wish I knew sooner.

Dear high school self,

I am going to tell you now that most of the things you think are important right now aren't going to be once you graduate. Nobody cares how straight your hair is or how much your artificially highlighted hair has grown out. The amount of Instagram likes you receive on your selfie doesn't matter, so you don't need to get approval from every friend to post it. You also don't need to wait until 8:45 p.m. on Friday night (prime posting time in case you were wondering) to post your picture.

People's thoughts about you don't matter at all. If you want to wear those pattern pants, then wear them. Don't wait until your senior year to gain the courage for this. Ugg boots are over rated, so wear whatever pleases you. Also, don't compare yourself to what you see on other people's social media accounts. It will only make you feel bad, when in reality it is only the absolute high's of these people's lives.

That one C you get in chemistry isn't going to ruin your life, and that one test you completely bomb won't take away you college admissions. Get involved, but not too involved to the point where nothing is fun anymore. Also, dress up for spirit week, even if you are the only one in your classes that does. You won't get a chance again.

Drama is draining and negative, so avoid it at all costs. Don't gossip about people you barely know. Chances are they will be your new best friend. Volunteer and help those who aren't as privileged. The feeling is very rewarding. Do something that makes you feel good, something you are passionate about.

Don't waste your time on negative people. Everything happens for a reason, and people will constantly come and go out of your life. Also, when things get rough don't lose hope. Always ask fro help when you need it, and don't be afraid to fail. You grow the most when you don't succeed.

Boys are dumb, so don't let them ruin your life. You go through all the bad ones to find the best ones, so be patient. The best things come when you aren't looking. Always make sure to appreciate your best friend as well. She will be there for you during thick and thin, no matter how crazy busy life gets along the way.

Love yourself so much that you can't anymore. Always put yourself first because at the end of the day you are the only one who will. Try to live in the moment rather than the past or future. I know it's hard, but it makes things worth it in the long run. Lastly, just take this precious time in life to find yourself. This isn't just a chapter in life, it is a start of a journey.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
