In the top hit "Uptown Funk" by Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars, they advise the listeners to "Stop!" and "Wait a minute!" and it's something the world has forgotten to do. It almost feels like we're living in an episode of "The Flash" moving from one task to the next at warp speed, with little disregard to reflect on our decisions. We have become a generation of immediate gratification with our high-speed internet, instant messaging and non-commercialized television.
Yes, I understand the attraction of all those things, but we have let the world run us and we find ourselves asking the same question every December 31st: "where has the year gone?" We praise the quick-witted and put down the deep thinkers. If someone doesn't respond to our texts immediately, we begin to question their friendship. While there may be some things that need to be expedited answers, the simple stuff like our food orders or waiting out a cold have had dire consequences and have come back to haunt us.
It might be far-fetched to say, but I think our bodies are riddled with disease because "fast" has become the norm. We are always in it for the quick fix like fast food and even a pill, or two. We have become an over-medicated, obese nation due to our incessant hunger for fast service.
So, we've diagnosed our problem, checked our servers, and it's only right that we prescribe an elixir to our ailment of "fastness". We can spare a minute to unwind and think before we speak, choose better fast food options (ask for unsalted fries to start) and let our body's immune system do its job to regulate that cold. We may not have the power to slow down the world but can take the time to slow down our day. The world has chased past us and if we don't slow down to take it all in, we will get lost in its chaos.
Don't believe me? Just watch!
