Am I Really An Adult If I Am 18?

Many people look at me and tell me that I am too "cute" to be considered an adult. What does that even mean? I am more than capable of being considered an adult. According to my parents, I am an adult if I can do my own laundry, cook my own meals, and pay my bills. Even though I am in college, my parents still consider me to be a child. So how do I really know if I am an adult or just a mini-adult?

I think the first thing that many people look at is whether or not the individual can earn a living. Most people that are considered to be an adult have a job. I have worked before and know the value of a dollar, however, my parents do not see me as an adult. They tell me that the only way I can truly be looked as an adult is if I work every day and that is my number one priority.

I guess my ability to drive also doesn't make me an adult. Most states in this country allow teenagers to drive at the age of 16, this is quite amazing. Driving gives a person the ability to be free and powerful. A person is able to travel and grab unique opportunities. Distance becomes less of a hassle when you know how to drive.

Why do people believe that the normal adult age is 18 when 21 is the age when you are given the ability to purchase alcohol. This topic often brings many opinionated views, however, I do not understand how one can be granted the role of an adult if they are not allowed to purchase a privilege of adulthood. I personally do not believe that alcohol is a right of adulthood, however, after being in college for a few months, my view has changed. Many people find themselves drinking as a mere way of being accepted into the cliques and social groups of society. Most of these groups are considered to have those "adults" most freshmen want to be seen with.

The role of responsibility is probably the biggest topic when someone is accepted as an adult. The best adults can accept responsibility. The age at which a person can do this varies for everyone. Some people can master this idea at a young age, while some 28-year olds can not even do this. This honestly depends on the individual's maturity level and ability to see what is right and wrong.

Whether you are 18 or 21, every country always has a specific age when they consider a person to be considered an adult. In the United States, the age is 18. Some may agree or disagree, but I believe that a person is an adult when they are able to mentally, emotionally, and visually perceive themselves as an adult. An adult is any individual that is fully grown and developed. This definition may be interpreted in numerous ways. People can only make guidelines to see how "adult" they can be. In the end, the choice is up to you.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
