With multiple hurricanes currently hitting the United States and surrounding areas, we can all expect some power outages. Living in a world full of technology we tend to think there is absolutely nothing to do in an outage. Well think about it, the world hasn't always had electricity, and tvs; what did people do before all of this?
1. Do a puzzle.
This may sound very cliché but doing a puzzle can help with hours of your time. If you know your power is going to go out, go to the store and pick up a few of the 1000 or 5000 piece puzzles. Make sure it is a picture you really like and it will help you have the motivation to finish it.
2. Read your textbooks you've been putting off since the first day of school.
It's only the third week of school and you're already behind multiple chapters in several classes. A power outage is the perfect time to catch up on all your reading. Sitting by candlelight reading a novel or even your textbook is very relaxing. Plus, you will be able to focus more without the tv or your phone.
3. Get crafty.
Stock up on art supplies before an expected power outage. Through candlelight or flashlights you can create some magnificent paintings. Painting, or even creating another DIY project can be a good way to ease your mind and distract you for a few hours.
4. Play a board game.
Get the whole family involved! Playing a board or card game is a good way to get everyone laughing in a stressful situation. If you're all ready to kill each other of boredom and frustration, play a really competitive game like Monopoly. Get all your feeling out while having fun.
5. Take a nap.
There's no power, it's dark; perfect conditions for a nap! This is a good way to help clear everything out of your head, take up a couple hours, and get away from everything.
6. If weather permits, go outside.
Going for a walk, or a swim could be a nice way to get out of the house for a bit. Go play outside like you used to when you are a kid. Try to remember all of those old games like four square, hide and seek, red rover, and tag. Be a kid again because we all miss the easier days.
