I often defend our generation when we're accused of being on our phones too much or for having zero communication skills because of all our online activities. However, I'm not sure I can do that anymore. Social media has actually worked its way into your everyday lives. If your phone's "screen time" is exceptionally high for apps like Instagram or Snapchat, then you might want to reevaluate how much you are on your phone.
Instagram has warped all of your minds to believe that people actually care what your "feed" looks like. Who cares? Do you really think the majority of your bosses will be basing your hire over whether or not your Instagram feed matches? Sure, maybe a few of your majors actually involve stylistic concepts, but for the majority of us, no. So, stop worrying and stop being so concerned. If you like the picture or if it is significant to you in some way, just POST IT.
Next off, if you haven't noticed, Twitter is literally a news feed. The amount of quick news feeds individuals receive from Twitter is definitely remarkable. However, is it really the best way for you to receive news? The amount of "fake news" is ridiculous and more often than not, all the clutter of posts makes it difficult to determine what's true and what's not. It doesn't matter if they have that little blue verification check mark or not. Phones do have news apps, so use them, for the love of God.
Now, fundraising, sadness, and Facebook. Is it just me or is Facebook officially just for people to complain and to ask for money? The amount of Facebook posts I scroll through about people's bad days and sad feelings forces me to log off. I don't know how everyone reads through all of it, I would become depressed! Fundraising is the other huge part of Facebook. I won't lie, I've tried to raise money for different organizations through Facebook, but that seems to be all its use is lately. If you feel like shedding some tears and spending some money, well then, I guess Facebook is perfect for you.
Lastly, Snapchat. Snapchat is the most incredible app in my opinion. It has literally tried to evolve in so many ways and the amount of users exceeds 400 million DAILY users. Snap chat, however, is officially our generations way of communicating and the generation below us is even worse! Snap chat "streaks" has made everyone somehow believe that it's okay to only communicate this way. My friend's little sibling has streaks with individuals she doesn't even know! We have actually become insane to believe this is acceptable. In my opinion, I hate only having snap chat conversations because I can never remember what was said and most of the time, the other person never remembers either.
With all this being said, we social media absorbed people need to take a step back, close out of the apps, put the phone down and actually interact with the world. Give your eyes a break from the screen and your fingers a break from the typing and scrolling. With that being said, I feel as if a few of you might be logging off my article right about now.
