I’ve seen this movie three times and I’d say it’s my favorite love story. It’s unique and I found that I laughed, cried and just felt good when I watched this. Obviously, it is fictional and could never happen, unless you believe time travel is hereditary. But the emotions portrayed on camera make it feel so real. The music does a great job of evoking emotion—"How Long Will I Love You" is one of my favorites from this movie.
In the story,a young British man named Tim, Domhnall Gleeson, is told by his father that every man in their family has the ability to time travel. Obviously, he does not believe his dad at first. But, he eventually tries it out and realizes that it is, in fact, true. He uses his time traveling ability to try to win over the heart of the beautiful Charlotte, Margot Robbie. Even though he changes the past, it doesn’t make her love him. So he moves on and takes a job as a lawyer in London. One night, Tim and his friend go on a blind date; It's literally a blind date because the setting is in complete darkness. Tim makes a real connection with his counterpart but his roommate, who is an aspiring director, has his play ruined on the same night of the blind date. In order to save his friend's play, Tim goes back in time to fix it and in turn, erases his blind date with Mary, Rachel McAdams. The remainder of the movie is a series of events in which Tim attempts to reconnect with Mary and have her fall in love with him again.
The big takeaway from this movie is that no matter what you change in the past, the future is inevitable. The people who love you will always find their way to you and the people who do not love you will not. By having the main character possess the ability to time travel, the movie touches on the idea that you should live everyday to the fullest because you won't get to live it again. The cast is a very talented one: Rachel McAdams, Margot Robbie, Domhnall Gleeson, and Bill Nighy do a stellar job and really fall into their characters well without overacting. I’d say this movie reached its full potential. So if you like romantic films, you will love this movie. Even if you are a sci-fi fan, you will love this movie. If you haven’t seen it, I suggest you do—especially if you are feeling low on life. It will make you feel better. I rate this movie a 7.3 out of 10.
