As school starts up again and seasons change, it is time for some new clothes. Let's be honest, it is always time for new clothes. If you shop constantly like I do, you may be spending a great deal of time and money making that happen. I love to get new clothes and make new outfits and saving money is always a good idea (if you save money you have some left over to get -wait for it- more clothes!). Check out these money saving clothing tips and stay stylish year round!
1. Buy expensive clothing.
I know this sounds counterintuitive, but hear me out. When I say "expensive" I don't mean extremely expensive, I mean don't buy the cheapest thing you find. By shopping at slightly more expensive stores you can get higher quality clothes. Clothes that last can wind up being more cost effective than low-quality clothes that you can only get a couple wears out of.
2. Don't impulse-buy.
I know it's hard not to just buy something right away that you really love. But you may not really love it. If you put it in your shopping cart (online) or take a picture of it (store) and if you really love it the next day, or a few days later, get it then. A lot of times you realize you aren't that in love with it. If you are it will be even better.
3. Always shop the sale section.
This one is a no-brainer. A lot of the time stores get ready for the new season way too early. They may start getting ready for fall in august and all of the summer stuff will go on sale. At least where I live, at that point there is still a lot of summer left. Buy summer stuff then! This applies to all seasons.
4. Share clothes.
Find a friend, sister, cousin, parent, anyone you are close with, who has a similar style as you and similar clothes sizes. Borrowing clothes from them and lending your clothes to them will help you both save money, and will double your wardrobe.
5. Look for coupons online.
Simply type into your search bar, *blank* store coupons. You can do this on your phone when you are in the store or online when you are shopping online. These are extremely easy to find and can wind up saving you a ton of money in very little time.
6. Join email lists.
Make a second email address for stores. Give this email address to stores to sign up for newsletters. Simply by signing up you are a member and will get discounts all of the time.
7. Shop cheap basics.
Don't spend all of your clothes budget on tank tops that go under your clothes. Getting inexpensive basics frees up money to spend on accessories to accent those basics and make them look expensive.
8. Repurpose your old clothes.
If you are crafty, you can find plenty of uses for your old clothes. Dresses can be made into shirts and pants can be made into shorts. Lace can be sewn on to clothes for accessories and patches can be sewn onto denim. Even if you don't consider yourself to be super crafty, just look for some videos on youtube. You can find easy ways to fix up old clothes.
9. Don't buy dry-clean only clothes.
Dry cleaning your clothes makes them cost more. If a shirt costs $50 and it needs to be dry-cleaned it costs $50 and more every time you wear it. Only buy clothes you can wash yourself. It will save you a ton in the long run.
