Growing up in Michigan, I'm used to the awful Midwest winters. For some out-of-state kids, though, this winter will be a wakeup call for them. Get used to not being able to feel your fingers and your nose running as soon as you step outside. Thankfully, there are some garments to help you get through this sad time. Here are the nine I swear by:
1. Women's Lodge Down Parka from Eddie Bauer, $229
Step aside $1000 Canadian Goose, this coat is my baby. It's perfect for 40-degree weather to negative 30-degree weather, and I honestly don't know how I got through 16 winters without it previously. The pockets are even insulated, so if you forget your gloves you're covered.
2. Valiant University of Michigan Fan Gear Cuffed Pom Knit Hat from The MDen $24
Every girl needs a pompon hat from their college for the winter. Plus, they're perfect for those late fall tailgates.
3. Women's Denali Thermal Mitt from The NorthFace $35
If you find mittens softer than this let me know because I honestly don't think that's possible. I've had mine since I was in middle school and they're still in amazing shape. 10/10.
4. Tofino II by Sorel $170
In order to be prepared for snow, you need snow boots. These boots are a God-send. They keep your feet extremely warm and help you gain traction so you don't slip and fall (which unfortunately happened to me every winter until these shoes). Don't be like me before these boots!5. Women's Cable Ear Gear from The NorthFace $28
On those days that your hair looks too good to wear a hat, wear an earband! They're adorable and stylish while keeping you warm. If you like to exercise outside in the winter, look for one that's for athletes.6. Women's 2-Pack Sparkle Cozy Cable Crew Socks from Target $7
Fuzzy socks are my favorite thing in this entire world. I wear them year round indoors, but they're perfect for wearing out in the winter. They're great under your snow boots for those super cold days!7. Women's Wicked Good Moccasins from L.L. Bean $79
Moccasins changed my life. For those days where you just can't with boots, mocassins are a perfect substitute. I wouldn't recommend wearing them when there's a large amount of snow and slush on the ground, but for milder days they're perfect for comfort and warmth.8. Honey-Comb Knit Infinity Scarf for Women from Old Navy $12
Scarfs are essential. You don't realize this until you come indoors and see that your entire chest is bright red and you have windburn. They're also perfect for wearing inside with sweaters!9. Women's Better Sweater Full-Zip Hoody from Patagonia $159
Patagonia's are perfect to wear under your parka and inside. They go with pretty much any pair of pants and are super soft and warm.
