As NBC television series "The Office" ended nearly five years ago, it has been rumored that Netflix would finally be removing the show from their list. No one is sure if dropping the show is due to a lack of viewers, an expiration of rights, or that the show has just been around for too long. But nevertheless, The Office is iconic, hilarious, and unique. If you've seen the show, then I don't doubt that you are agreeing with me. If you're one of the few left who hasn't gotten around to watching the show or you've been hell-bent on rejecting it for God knows why, devote a weekend or two to The Office and discover how addicting it is. Need a few convincing reasons to do so? Let me help with that...
1. The Office is just plain funny.
Try watching an episode without letting out a good laugh or chuckle. You can't. The show has viewers laughing nonstop throughout immature antics, poignant foolishness, and sarcastic bits.
2. It is diverse with different types of characters.
Crazy boss. Sarcastic slacker. Fascist nerd. Dorky receptionist. Many other extremely unique characters exist on the show to create the potential for office shenanigans to occur that make the show such a hit. Viewers often grow attached to characters and their personalities, proving the ultimate creativity of The Office's writers.
3. You learn random, yet interesting facts.
Assistant (to the) Regional Manager, Dwight Schrute, is one of the shows most popular characters. As the top salesman at Dunder Mifflin and the owner of his families bed in breakfast/beet farm, Dwight shows expert level knowledge in agriculture, German culture, espionage, military strategies, self defense, and many more topics. Because of his wide range of uncommon knowledge, it's no surprise that Dwight's nerdy banter plays a large role in the shows humorous appeal. Viewers can laugh and learn at the same time!
4. The Office shows the beauty in ordinary things.
It's just a show about a documentary being made about an office that sells paper... what's so cool about that? EVERYTHING. Former secretary Pam Beasley leaves an impactful statement to viewers that "an ordinary paper company [is] a great subject for a documentary. There's a lot of beauty in ordinary things. Isn't that kind of the point?"
5. It teaches you how to avoid work.
As this show can be so addicting, viewers may find it hard to take their eyes away from the screen and actually apply their attention to something productive. I, in fact, have spent so much time writing this article because I have gotten distracted by The Office.
6. The show has multiple ranges of humor.
Comedy on The Office is anything but selective. It is diverse and covers many different areas of humor to attract laughs. Personally, I have never met a person that hasn't laughed while watching it.
7. A "goals" worthy love story exists within the show.
Ah, the epic story of Pam and Jim will never not be goals. I won't say much here as to avoid spoiling anything, but let's just say it's as if this love story was written by Nicholas Sparks.
8. You learn how to be a world-class prankster.
Handsome, nice guy of The Office, Jim Halpert, devotes most of his time at work playing pranks around the office to relieve boredom. As an infamous April Fool's prankster, I must admit that Jim pulls some legendary pranks. His signature first prank of the show is putting office supplies in Jell-O. From there, his pranks revolve around sending frenemy Dwight Schrute on paranoia-based antics and adventures.
9. The Office teaches you how to commit.
To be honest, the only reason I first refused to watch the show because there were 192 episodes and I did not have the time or patience to get through all of the seasons. But like every other office viewer, I shortly became addicted and commitment to all nine seasons was not a problem at all. So ladies and gents, if you're trying to get your significant other to finally settle down, put on The Office and they'll be with you for as long as it takes you to get through 192 21-minute episodes.
