9 Movies You Should Check Out This Summer
Slash Film

It's the summer season and you know what that means! All throughout May, June, July and August, several blockbusters will hit the theaters. Almost 100 movies are set to be released between May 27th and August 26th. Among those movies, here are the nine you should definitely check out.

1. X-Men: Apocalypse

Release Date: May 27th, 2016

The next movie in the X-Men movie series looks as fun to watch as the rest of its predecessors. Despite getting mixed reviews from critics, this is still a must see movie. After all, superhero films are fun to watch.

2. Alice Through the Looking Glass

Release Date: May 27th, 2016

Tim Burton’s back at it with Alice Through the Looking Glass, the sequel to the 2010 version of Alice in Wonderland. Starring Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway and Mia Wasikowska, this movie will follow Alice (Wasikowska) as she makes a return to the unique world of Underland.

3. Finding Dory

Release Date: June 17th, 2016

Perhaps one of the most anticipated sequels of 2016, Disney-Pixar will bring viewers back into the depths of the sea with Finding Dory. On this new adventure, Dory sets out to reunite with her family, featuring a plethora of old and new characters, including an octopus that has been hiding in every Disney-Pixar movie to date.

4. Independence Day Resurgence

Release Date: June 24th, 2016

In a world full of sequels and remakes, here’s another sequel, this one being to the movie Independence Day, originally released in 1996. Several of the cast members from the original movie will return for this version and it will include some new cast members, including Liam Hemsworth, who will be playing one of the main roles.

5. The Legend of Tarzan

Release Date: July 1st, 2016

Based off the same character from the animated Disney movie, this one is a live action adventure film that will tell the story of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ character, Tarzan. This one will likely be more mature than the animated version but very possibly just as entertaining.

6. The Conjuring 2

Release Date: June 10th, 2016

If you’re the type of person who enjoys horror movies, then this will be the movie for you, especially if you’ve seen the original Conjuring movie. James Wan will return to direct and Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson will reprise their main roles.

7. Ghostbusters

Release Date: July 15th, 2016

This is essentially the reboot of the 1980s Ghostbusters film series. The big difference: it will feature an all-female main cast. This is definitely a bold change, but it still looks like a promising film nonetheless.

8. Ice Age: Collision Course

Release Date: July 22nd, 2016

For those of us who don’t want our childhood to fully end, the latest movie in the Ice Age franchise should definitely help with that, especially since these movies first came out in 2002. As usual, this new movie will take viewers on a journey through exotic new lands and bring us to new characters that are just as exotic.

9. Suicide Squad

Release Date: August 5th, 2016

This is perhaps the most anticipated DC film to hit theatres this year (Sorry Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice). What makes this movie appealing to many heroes is that unlike the Avengers or the Justice League, the Suicide Squad is a group of villains being brought together to save the world. Definitely not your everyday superhero movie.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
