On June 26, the US Supreme Court ruled that same-sex couples can marry nationwide. For the LGBT community, this day will be remembered forever. However, let us cease celebration and rewind to June 1994 – the first LGBT Pride Month. Originally meant to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan, LGBT Pride Month has quickly become a month of awareness. Cities across the nation now host pride-parades, concerts and various events to show solidarity for the LGBT community. However, cities are not alone. Companies also use LGBT Pride Month as an opportunity to show their support. Here are nine companies, along with their gay-inclusive advertisements, that stand in solidarity with the queer community. It is this kind of advertisement that restores my faith in society. It breaks barriers and creates change -- something many companies are still petrified to do.
1. Allstate's "Safe In My Hands"
"Being visible should never leave you feeling vulnerable."
2. Amazon's Kindle
"My husband is bringing me a drink."
"So is mine."
3. Starbucks's "Coffee Frenemies"
"Expect more than great coffee."
4. "Android: And you"
"Be together, not the same."
5. Campbell's "Your Father"
"Cooper, I am your father."
6. Tide to Go's "Never Tolerate the Stain"
"I won't let you blemish the sanctity of marriage."
7. Nordstrom's holiday ad.
"Home. Heart. Holiday."
8. Apple: Pride 2015
"Inclusion inspires innovation."
9. Tylenol's "#HowWeFamily"
"When did you first fight to be considered a family?"
I commend these nine companies on remaining steadfast in their values, for standing tall despite constant opposition and for helping a voice get heard that many don't want to hear. Without this wave of advertisements, who knows where the queer community would be? I encourage you to share this article with friends, family, or anyone who will listen. The world is changing. Let's keep it that way.
