Thanksgiving break is like a little teaser for winter break. Our long winter break is coming, and so that we all don't die of stress, we get five days to relax before we have to worry about finals. These are the best parts of Thanksgiving break.
1. Good Food
This is the most obvious and most important. Turkey, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie... These are the things we look forward to on Thanksgiving Day. My dad has a tradition of making pumpkin cheesecake for every Thanksgiving which is my favorite treat. No matter what your family's traditions are, you will most likely be eating delicious food some way or another.
2. Family
Sure, you might have that crazy relative that always imposes their political views on you or tells you that millennials are just lazy, but for most people, it is nice having all of our family in one place. These people care for you and love you. It's important to spend quality time with them, and Thanksgiving is a wonderful occasion for that.
3. No stress from school
Thanksgiving is right in between midterms and finals, and it seems like with school you're always stressed about something or just stressed in general. Thanksgiving break is short compared to winter and summer, but it's the perfect time to do things you want, or just have some downtime stress-free.
4. Leftovers
When you think the feast has just ended... nope. You have enough delicious food in your fridge to feed a family of bears. This is your breakfast, lunch and dinner for the next few days.
5. Black Friday
Ah, yes, Black Friday. The day when you rush to the mall and risk your life to get some good discounts. Or, for me, an excuse to not go out. After all, almost dying from being trampled at the mall is not my thing. I'll just get those Cyber Monday discounts from my laptop while I sit in bed.
6. Short School Week
No, this is technically not part of Thanksgiving break, but it is really nice to start your school week and end it the next day.
7. Food
Can't emphasize this enough. Food food food food food.
8. The Weekend After
As I like to call it, "don't do anything weekend." Cooking, shopping, whatever else you did over Thanksgiving was all tiring. This weekend is time to rest up before you start school again.
9. Beginning of Christmas
Although the Christmas music starts at midnight on Friday morning and doesn't end until New Years Day, and we all wanna say it's annoying, there is a part of us that secretly loves it. You can admire Christmas decorations and music now without saying "it's not even Thanksgiving yet," and that is very liberating.
