We've made it fellow Chicagoans. Although it hasn't fully warmed up, springtime is upon us. It's time to dust off the raincoats and store away the long underwear. The time of ice cream, picnics and running off the lake before the nightmare of summer humidity makes life unbearable. So here are ten things to do before the summer heat sets in.
1.Snag cheap seats for a sports game
Springtime for baseball season is normally the cheapest time of the year. For the two other teams in season until April, the lack of interest in both teams is at an all low. The Hawks and Bulls are living in the cellars.
2. Look at the tulips across downtown
Without having to make your way to a conservatory, this little slice is more than enough with all the different colors between from State St. to the lakefront.
3. Walks off the lake
Take time to clear your head or exercise with a nice stroll on the miles of pathways for bikes, runners and walkers alike. The summertime can be dreadful with the high humidity and makes breathing seem like a full-time job.
4. Explore an unfamiliar neighborhood
There are 77 distinct parts of this city. I'm sure that you haven't seen all of them but each will give you a reason to come back.
5. Eat a restaurant with an outdoor patio
Honestly, this feels super classy and relaxing while eating anything from tacos to steak in a mid-day sun.
6. Witness the Cinco De Mayo Parade
Celebrate the Mexican victory in the Battle of Puebla with some amazing food, art, and entertainment. Just don't go around yelling "Cinco de Drinko" like a moron. There is a time and place for that and its called St. Patrick's Day.
7. Plan a picnic
Whether it's solo, with friends or romantic. Take the time to enjoy a beautiful lakefront view at one of the beaches or parks scattered along the way. Plus you can pack as much food as you can carry, which is way cheaper than eating out.
8. Bacon Fest
It's a festival about Bacon! There shouldn't be anything else needed to convince you!
