Did you know some people have no interest in reading? *GASP* I know, it's crazy. Did you know some people love books more than people? That one's not as far-fetched. Books are a fantastic way to go on an adventure while you stay at home, to intimately know people you have never met, and to know stories like you never would have dreamed. So here's to you, the people who are in crazy, head over heels, heart-throbbing love with books!
1. You actually use the word "bibliophile."
You're probably used to hearing others call you a nerd or a bookworm, but you prefer a more sophisticated title to regard your fascination.
2. You're either reading five books during the same period or completely consumed with a single novel.
Sometimes you're acting as an inter-dimensional being, jumping from one universe to the next, peering in on its inhabitants through the window of the author's words. Sometimes you're tethered down to a story with the ball and chain of riveting plot lines and expert story telling. There is no in between.
3. Exploring a new bookstore is one of the best adventures you can go on.
Shopping for books is so much more fun in a store than online. However, sticking to the big bookstores like Barnes & Noble's and Books-A-Million can really make you feel lacking in selection. Luckily for you, there's bookstores hidden in the nooks and crannies of nearly every city and town, and you keep your eyes peeled for them. Walking through the doors of these unexplored territories is like diving in a cave of treasure.
4. Even after you finish one book, your reading list only ends up longer.
Your list isn't actually a thing to be completed. It's simply there to remind you of the surmounting number of books you have made up your mind to read. By the time you've crossed one novel off the list, you've bought three more to replace it. You'll get to them. Eventually.
5. You have to read the book before you see the movie.
The book is always better; has this not been established as fact? It's better to get the story from the book first, and not have a movie diminish the story.
6. You are more concerned with characters' relationships than that of friends.
In a sense, you probably know the characters better than you do your friends. So it only makes sense that your fictional companions are the ones that really pull your heart strings. It's perfectly normal, I promise.
7. You've pulled all-nighters to finish a book.
Although your eyes are begging you for rest and your mind is slowly losing function, you keep pushing through, page after page. Sleep is for the weak, and this book is just too good. Besides, nothing goes better with a book than coffee.
8. When you're reading, it's time for others to stop talking.
When you're lost in your book, you've become unreachable. Trying to speak to you while you read is akin to waking a sleeping bear with a stick.
As many people on Earth as there are that can read, it's astounding how few utilize this gift. For a bibliophile, books are the world. If you don't identify as a book-lover, find some reading material that speaks to you and change that.
