8 Ways To Cut Down On Stress During Finals Week
Everyday-reading.com

If you're an anxious and stressed person, day-to-day life is hard enough. But when you add ridiculously stressful things, it just gets harder and almost seems impossible. Add finals onto the stress of the end of the semester, and it just seems unbearable! There's no need to let it get you down though. Here are some tips on how to deal with stress during finals week:

1. Don't freak out.

You can do this! You did it last semester and the semester before that, and so have millions of other people. It's possible! It's going to take some hard work and effort, but it can be done. So just take a deep breath and give yourself a pep talk. You can do this!

2. Don't put off studying until the week of finals.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you need to spend every Friday night at home outlining every chapter, but it will relieve a lot of the burden if you create good study habits at the beginning of the semester. If you just go over your notes at least once a week, it'll be refreshed and studying for finals will be more of a review. Easy peasy!

3. Ask for help!

Trust me, I know. Sometimes that can be a really, really hard thing to do. But if you need help, then ask for it! Don't spend hours trying to figure it out on your own, getting more and more frustrated the whole time. Text your buddy that just seems to get everything and have them explain it. It'll take a lot off of your back!

3. Take plenty of breaks.

It's OK to take breaks. Stop and watch that episode of "Kimmy Schmidt." You earned it! You don't need to study for hours straight. The textbook will still be there when you get done and you can look at it with new, refreshed eyes.

4. Think of ways to motivate yourself.

I like to put gummy bears at the ends of long passages. When I finish reading, I get a gummy bear! Find something for yourself that works. Whether it's 30 minutes of Netflix time, a pint of Blue Bell, or a Taco Bell run, find something you can work towards that will motivate you to study.

5. Don't just study. Learn.

Don't think of it as studying. You're learning the material that is going to make you a better lawyer, teacher, nurse, or historian. You went to college to make something of yourself. Finals are just a point to be tested to make sure you're learning what you should be learning. So learn the material. Don't just memorize it. Make connections and analyze it. You'll be able to apply it in so many more ways than just finals week.

6. Give yourself pep talks.

You probably listen to yourself more than anyone and sometimes you can be too hard on yourself. So tell yourself you can do this for a change. Remind yourself of all of the amazing things you've accomplished and how well you're going to do. You've got this! Don't let yourself forget that.

7. Just do it!

If you're like me, you tend to put overwhelming things off until the last minute because you're worried about doing it. Don't fall into that temptation! It just makes things harder for yourself. Just start working and don't give up. Procrastination is not your friend! Things will be so much less overwhelming if you space it out and don't wait until the last minute.

8. Finals aren't the most important thing in your life.

So don't put too much pressure on yourself. Prepare as much as possible and do the best you can. That's all you can do. And it will be enough. You've worked hard to get this far, and it will pay off! So don't stress about it too much. Everything will be OK.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
