8 Unrealistic Summer Goals We All Make, But Never Accomplish

The silly struggles of having freedom, no responsibilities, and no motivation.

After ending the school year strong and having a consistently busy routine stuck in my brain, I tend to set a lot of goals for the summer. I do this thinking I will have the motivation, energy, and time, yet I always find myself avoiding these tasks as much as possible. Below are a few goals I set but never accomplish; maybe they're on your list too!

1. Go to the gym every day

I always seem to start the summer holding this intense workout plan in my hands, ready to get motivated, fit and really gym savvy.

But somehow, after a few days, I find myself unable to move off of the couch. Somehow I can only crawl to the next room with a bag of chips in one hand and chocolate in the other!

2. Eat less ice cream

When the trips to the gym fail, I start to think that another way to keep healthy is by regulating my diet! Maybe this will help just as much as the gym!

But then I get invited at least three times a day to go get ice cream and, well, I go. Each time.

3. Travel

Going on adventures with friends to exotic places is always on my list of to-dos! Having exciting discussions about traveling across the country and flying to explore various islands is the best part!

That is until no one can go at the same time or other complications arise. So we end up all getting pizza together and watching movies every night. Don’t get me wrong, that’s still my favorite part about summer!

4. Start a new hobby

This may just be me, but I always think of new things I’d want to try and accomplish. For example, learning to play the guitar, writing music or reading a book in a different language.

Usually, I end up getting all the material to do these new hobbies and don’t end up using them. Oh well, I guess I’ll just continue to paint or color in my coloring book.

5. Go to bed at a reasonable hour

After establishing an unusual sleep schedule from being away at school, I usually feel prompted to change my habits. Plus, going to bed early will help me wake up earlier to start all of the goals listed above!

But we all know I end up finding things to do at 2 AM. Whether it's watching Netflix or driving around with friends, I'm simply not ready to go to bed yet!

6. Get sun-kissed, not burnt

No matter how hard I try, getting the perfect tan is impossible and I always end up getting sunburnt. It is inevitable for me!

Unfortunately, I love taking long naps on the beach or I forget to put sunscreen on. Then, my goal to get a nice golden tan turns into a painful searing of my skin and I’m stuck inside covered in aloe for the next week until I find the courage to go back outside.

7. Play fewer video games and spend more time outside

The first week or so starts off consistent with doing yard work, going for bike rides, and berry picking. But then the heat kicks in and PlayStation or Wii come out with another game to conquer and you find yourself happily cooling on your couch, easily entertained for hours while everyone is sweating outside. What could be better!?

8. Become a Pro-Kadima expert

Nothing is more exciting than challenging your friends or family members to a riveting game of Pro Kadima.

One game is usually enough for me and my friends because it gets too hot diving all over the place...because we’re not good at Pro Kadima, and we end up sitting down with an ice cream to cool down.

Well, looks like I'll have to try to go back to the gym...maybe not. Let's try again next summer!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
